Tinted / opaque corrugated plastic roof

Hi, I'm looking to replace the corrugated plastic roof on a large'ish garden shed. I know corrugated plastic is looked down upon a bit but it's the only type of roof it's had in a long life and the last time I replaced it was about 20 years ago so I don't have a problem with it's life span per...

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

I can see the sense in that, I could probably put the skirting back temporarily and try and make the area look tidier. I have to say, just me having a rant you understand, how these sort of jobs just snowball in the total ballache department - my mum reminded me that the guys who put the...

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Hi Dilalio, Thanks for your detailed reply. The dampness is definitely more than just on the surface, the top few mm is quite soft, you can push a knife or screwdriver into the wood, not all the way through tho. I would very much like to have got that whole section of boarding out to check...

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Hi Terry, Yes, in checking how bad it was, a screwdriver and stanley knife were used in probing the wood and flaking pieces off, I also used a brush to collect up the pieces of plasterboard I cut out so that area has been rubbed a lot. I really wanted to get that whole section up to check...

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Hi Terry, The light brown area to the right of the pipe is actually the remains of some tiling that were covered in an adhesive years ago and covered with a hardboard wood effect panelling. The darker brown area to the right of this is a tiny piece of this panelling. As far as I know the...

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Hi Terry, Yes the boarding is a marine ply style board. The grey areas are what I assumed were an adhesive for the looselay flooring. I wasn't aware any joists are visible in the second photo, where d'you mean exactly?

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Hi Ken, As Terry has mentioned, no other pipes visible in the second photo just electricity cables to the appliances on that side of the kitchen gathered together with insulating tape.

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Sections of it are solid concrete, the section in the photo is just boarding screwed onto joists with a 2-3 foot void underneath. There's no insulation on the floor.

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Hi Ken, If you are referring to the black object on the right, that's one of the support feet for the kitchen units. Nick

Could condensation on pipe cause this ?

Hi, We recently had a floorer in to relay some Karndeen looselay flooring in the kitchen - he took two strips up and we were all horrified at what was underneath ... I should point out that the kitchen was completely gutted and new floor boarding put down in October 2015, so that damage...

    Pillar tap dismantle

Sorry, also meant to ask, do I need to replace the entire valve or just the ceramic disc ? To be honest, doing a quick Internet search, there seems to be little difference in cost between buying the whole thing or just the disc, so I guess I may as well buy a new valve complete.

Hi Elkato, yes, they're quarter turn taps. I've had to leave it for today but will bear in mind what you say when I come to strip them down. Many thanks. Nick

    Pillar tap dismantle

It's years since I changed a washer tbh lol. Once I'd taken the lever off and exposed the brass valve underneath, I did try a spanner on the large nut just to see if there was any movement but its as tight as you like so I guess its definitely the washer. There was also a kind of pin...

    Pillar tap dismantle

Hi Jon, Thanks for the link and agreed, they do look identical, however, I tried a very thin knife blade first and the tops popped off relatively easily. Mine are completely unbranded so may well be a cheaper model. Just gotta remember how I do the next bit now ;) Thanks once again. Nick

    Pillar tap dismantle

Hi, Can anyone advise on how you get into this style of pillar tap to change a washer ? There are no obvious grub screws and the thin discs you can see in the picture on top of the central columns won't budge ? Any help much appreciated.
