    Police called about a fence!!!

@Nige F It used to be a small row of semi detached council houses built in the 1940s. Most have been bought by the long term renters, but a couple were transferred to H/A. Never had any issues with the previous tenants, but these lot are like semi-domesticated travellers. Part of the 'entitled'...

    Police called about a fence!!!

Community policing issue? "Officer, my neighbour has just asked me to take my hanging baskets off of his fence but I don't want to...arrest him." I'd rather they sat doing nothing actually.

    Police called about a fence!!!

I don't slag off the Police, I have relations that are Police officers. They were in attendance to a serious bomb threat last night where my kids were, so it kind of puts a 'fence dispute' or even a cat up a tree in context don't you think? If you think that a fence dispute is 'something...

    Police called about a fence!!!

I did mention that to the Police but they just wanted to tick the boxes and move on to the next serious crime. I understand that there was a cat up a tree nearby.

    Police called about a fence!!!

I often read about how neighbour disputes over fences are of no interest to the Police, however it would appear that although the UK is now on critical alert for terror attacks, our local Police can find the time to despatch two officers (actual Police, not PCSOs) to discuss just such a dispute...

    Homebase Metal pendant...earth issue?

My bad, I assumed you were saying that the entire fitting wasn't class 2. The cup part isn't, as you say it has single insulated wiring. The holder wiring is double insulated but it's the connection inside the holder that bothers me as it is not visible or accessible.

    Homebase Metal pendant...earth issue?

"Touch lamps work on capacitance which changes whenever you touch it. They will not work with the casing earthed." Read more: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/dodgy-touch-dimmer-table-lamps.215966/#ixzz4arhsqWHF It's not a touch lamp.

    Homebase Metal pendant...earth issue?

Homebase + unknown brand...'should' be fine. It's the proximity of the wires to the metal casing and the inability to check that they are connnected securely that concerns me. Out of interest, why is the ceiling plate earthed then?

    Homebase Metal pendant...earth issue?

It's not that one, but the holder is similar except mine has the on/off switch on it. It looks to be constructed the same way, the knurled ring joins the upper dome and the lower shell. You twist the ring off and the two halves come apart slightly. The dome can be moved up the cord, once the...

    Homebase Metal pendant...earth issue?

The light fitting would be low down, it has a 1m cord on it so using the on/off switch is easy. My concern is the fact that the metal part that you are going to touch each time it's used isn't earthed. The cord is wired into the inside of the holder and there is no way to access it to make sure...

    Homebase Metal pendant...earth issue?

I have looked on the Homebase website and there is nothing listed for this pendant. I have tried to do a general search for it online and found nothing. The 'brand' is TCP, of Chinese origin. I'll try to post some pix if I can.

    Homebase Metal pendant...earth issue?

Just bought a couple of 'brass' pendants that are labelled as double insulated and carry the CE mark. The metal ceiling rose has a flying earth lead to connect it to the lighting circuit, but the holder end is two wires, no earth. This holder is metal but is isolated by a plastic sleeve, however...

    Flow and Return mix up?

I'm changing out old ones as I redecorate the house.

    Flow and Return mix up?

The pipe that gets hot first is the one marked H Return, so is actually the flow pipe and I can trace it back to the 'flow' outlet on the boiler, but that's why I'm confused when I read the posts about pipes being the wrong way around at the boiler. From what I gather now, there is no right or...

    Flow and Return mix up?

Hi chaps, all's fine with the set up 'as is' then which is good. @just pumps...that was my original concern. The 'flow' pipe at the boiler is marked by the fitter as 'H Return' a few feet further on? This pipe is actually the 'Flow'. Is this different to the posts that I read?

    Flow and Return mix up?

Just had a look around and they are mostly marked with the 2 arrows, except a really old one on a radiator which is going to be changed soon, it's only got 1 arrow pointing toward the radiator ( opposite direction to flow). The bathroom one doesn't have a TRV. Around the house it's a mix of...

    Flow and Return mix up?

Hi Ian, So no need to swap the 22mm F and R pipes over at the boiler then? Just that I was reading a few posts elsewhere on this forum about fitters having to sort out heating and boiler issues by swapping the F and R over as they were fitted the wrong way in the first place. How do I check...

    Flow and Return mix up?

Hi Agile I don't wish to sound disrespectful and I'll take your word, but I can't understand why it makes no difference because I always gathered that the rad 'called' for hot water via the TRV. To me, the system at present is drawing hot water through the 'wrong' end of the radiator and I can't...

    Flow and Return mix up?

In 2011, I had a new combi boiler installed to replace an old back boiler and now have concerns that the flow and return were mixed up. The existing pipework was untouched except for a short length of the main 22mm pipes from the back boiler. All rads except the bathroom have TRVs on them...
