New Extension, comments on costs estimated so far.....

I came across them doing some serious extension/reconfiguration work on a bungalow I drive past every day. I stopped and had a chat to the guy and he has been to have a look at the plans/work. Bear in mind I live in a rural area (Herefordshire) so I would hope labour rates were significantly...

I have allowed £850 + VAT for scafolding. (Telephone quote) Concrete floor is included in costs, floor joists would be installed by builder as shell progressed. Again I have included lintels and cavity closers in materials. Are you of the opinion that my labour estimates are overly...

    Conservatory Foundations

Does that mean my walls are therefore exempt from BC? Are the foundations suitable or should I be kicking up a fuss? After all the wall is slowly subsiding! Thanks

    Conservatory Foundations

We have a 3.5 x 4m conservatory which was built approx. 5 years ago. Two walls are dwarf walls and the third is approx 6ft high with small windows above. We have notice a crack forming where the 6ft high wall joins the house, over time this has gotten worse. The crack is worse at the top of...

Question about joining extension to existing property

Thanks for the replies. I though you had to run a vertical dpc where the existing wall meets the new wall because the existing wall will bridge the cavity ? (Existing wall corner 'L' then becomes a 'T')

    Building regs - Insulation

Am I right in assuming that if we start our extension before April we don't have to meet the new insulation regs ? What do we actually have to have done to have 'started' ? Are the new regs worth meeting anyway in a new build ?

House extension - new electrical installations

As I am understanding it, the Building Control department are responsible for inspecting the work afterwards, therefore no testing actually needs to be done ? What would an Electrician need to check ? If I left all face plates and light fittings unscrewed and floor boards off in relevant...

We're not on a meter, so actual usage of water isn't regulated. However I appreciate I will have to heat more water which will cost more in gas.
