Replacing a socket with 2 earth wires

I have bought a new socket (with 2 plugs) and I can see it has space for just one earth wire.. Can I go ahead and use it? Just remove the extra earth wire? One of the black wires is in a "earth placement" and goes up into the wall and the blue and yellow wire screws into the metal casing...

    Plaster fell off the ceiling

You are right .It is worst at the wall's edge. Avery long term thing I think and the moisture levels in some of the battens ,whilst very low are not zero. (at the wall they are destroyed at the end ) Some years ago the water radiators that ran off the boiler were disconnected ( the main...

    Plaster fell off the ceiling

Thanks.Would it be safe in the short term to just paint over the area with thick paint like artec(think that is what t it is called)? I don't fancy taking up the carpet and floorboards just now. Even some thin polystyrene sheet ? (that woud be a fire hazard but realistically that...

    Blocking a toilet cistern ballcock

Actually I think the ballcock is holding the water out now .When the outlet from the bowl dries I can probably fix the leak and then release the ballcock. The leak is stopped now but I will have to repair it.

    Blocking a toilet cistern ballcock

This is an unused ttoilet cistern in the house that is filling very slowly as a result of a small leak in the outlet. I want to stop it filling and so have jammed the balcock lever shut with some string and a piece of wood laid across the top. I am not sure if this will be 100% watertight...

    What is the tackiest mastic?

I am coming around to the idea that bituminous mastic is as tacky as any other mastic (when correctly applied) Are there any other mastics that are equally tacky (or moreso ) but have other advantages ? Or is bituminous mastic simply the tackiest? (I know it cracks over time but that is...

    My broadband cable was damaged

Yes ,that occured to me I always thought there was plenty of clearance . I haven't reported it yet as it is quite secure now and much higher off the ground than it was before But if I do report it they may well be unhappy replacing it exactly as it was.

    My broadband cable was damaged

No ,it is on my land (it comes from the main road,of course and uses an old wooden electricity pole in the garden to straddle the distance up the the house. The pole was undamaged but the cable was partially pulled away from the house and fell on the ground. Also undamaged)

Silicon (or ms polymer,) mastic over Bangor slates

I use mastic along the vertical spaces between the slates as a quick repair job if there is water getting in under the slates. However I find it very hard to get the right colour to match the slates. Is there any way to match the mastic colour to the slates? (transparent doesn't work either...

    Dead central heating system

Thanks for your help. It's a big house . There are about 10 radiators upstairs and downstairs. The pipes were very old and rusty and so we replaced the whole length from boiler to the upstairs bot water tank (with narrower gauge flexible piping instead of the old 2 inch diameter stuff -at...

    Dead central heating system

My system has an outdoor oil boiler with 2 pumps. One goes to the downstairs radiators and the other goes to the upstairs hot water tank. In the fairly recent past this pump also fed the upstairs radiators (no more) A couple of years back the pipes under the upstairs floorboards had to be...
