    Air in the Pump

I have an Interpart boiler pump next to the outside boiler that seems to have got air in it . Can any explain to me how I get the air out if it is in? I have bled the cylinder in the upstairs hot press but tat has not helped. Will it eventually come back or might I actually be damaging the...

    Led lights in the house

I have old fashioned filament bulbs in my bedrooms ,halls and corridors etc The fittings are for bayonets. Recently I bought some Maxim 6Watt=40Watt bulbs with bayonet attachments and am quite pleased. But can I find something along the same lines that is not so bright? Maybe softer? With...

    Replacing a facial board

Actually I approached the area by ladder yesterday (instead of from above) and it felt safer as I could "rattle their cage" before going up and there are days in winter when they are very inactive (not today as it is quite warm) And I think I will attempt to drill through the slates looking...

    Replacing a facial board

Yes ,it was nailed to the rafters' feet through holes in the slates. Clearly the nails have come loose and I can tell that I cannot simply replace the old nails with longer ,thicker nails (or screws) I will have to drill new holes and hope to find the rafters feet and hope that they are...

    Replacing a facial board

I have an exterior wall that is lined with slates and inclined at about a 5/10 degree angle from the vertical (So very steep) The facia board and the gutter was blown off in the wind and when I attempt to fix it back using new nails/screws in the existing holes there is no purchase . The...

    Cracked rendering letting in dampness

This is in an interior wall beneath a chimney. I have attempted to repair the leak on the outside but the dampness has persisted. The plaster itself is damp and this seems to emanate from fairly large deep cracks in the rendering (and stonework behind) What would be the best way to seal...

    Servicing an Aga

I know what you mean ,but I have some familiarity with this range as I have cleaned it for the past 25 years and that would not be the first mini explosion I have had. There is a warning sign never to relight a very hot burner. I would only do it if the kerosene had been switched on for only...

    Servicing an Aga

I just cleaned my Aga. As some will know , the paraffin is normally gravity fed into the burner under the main hotplate. This burner has 4 concentric cylinders standing in circular grooves and between these cylinders are 2 circular wicks. Now these wicks are not necessary to the functioning of...

Patching a ceiling on an old house

Yes that had occurred to me also. After 20 years or so of intermittent water ingress and post hoc odd jobbing it may he something of an ah ha moment if I can actually pinpoint all the places it comes in at. Not that I am holding my breath; these leaks seem to take delight in waiting for your...

Patching a ceiling on an old house

You have described it to a tee. Yes there is a leak above that I have been unable to eradicate and even the builders struggled with (it was a crack in the lead guttering at the time, about 20yrs ago) There is actually only a very small flat roofed area and it is where the slated (sloping)...

Patching a ceiling on an old house

There are beams to which are attached what I would call "latts"(?) and there was a thick (half an inch) layer of rough plaster. I would say it is a 3 by 5 foot area . The remaining plaster is hanging below the level of the latts (not dangerously) and so the area to be repaired would need to be...

Putting a shower attachment on an old bath

In mms Circumference at base of each tap =175 (but it tapers upwards like a woman's waist to 115 before bulging out again towards the top as visible in the pics.) Also not circular but elliptic Diameters are 40 and 30 (width and depth) So too small it seems for the rubber attachments...

Putting a shower attachment on an old bath

Just over 180mm. 182 or 183 I measure. I am not looking to have much elevation necessarily, just something hand held although if an elevation was possible I would consider it . It's an oil burner.

Putting a shower attachment on an old bath

Any ideas? I don't think I can get one "off the shelf" and I want to keep the bath.

    Sealants for CH Systems

Yes I have a leak. It is a slow one since all it does (so far) is discolour the ceiling. This is a very antiquated system with no fancy bleed valves. The leaking pipe is old rusty iron about 1.5 inch in diameter I would say.

    Sealants for CH Systems

As an example: https://www.proweld.ie/product/c-tec-miracle-seal/ or http://tec7.ie/product/plumb7/ What is the consensus on this kind of a product? Will it save me the hassle of pulling up my carpets and floorboards? Can I pour the product into the expansion tank outlet? Do I need to drain...

The Waterproof System on the Miele W919 wps

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I have a decent work around got now with an extra length of garden hose leading into the soap tray (from a separate tap) that I turn on for the first 4 or 5 minutes to increase the pressure on the pressure sensor. Until I get around to plumbing in the...

The Waterproof System on the Miele W919 wps

Hi again,I have opened up the front (swung open the door without mishap) and I think I have found the schematic you are referring to. It is a small plastic bag with two pieces of paper. The first one looks like an electric diagram for the machine and the second is merely the legend in about a...
