    Small window ledge

Foam adhesive? Like the expanding foam stuff? Think I'm a bit lost!

    Small window ledge

That's not a bad shout actually bosswhite - I happen to have some quite small hardwood quadrant in the shed. I'll offer a piece up and see how it looks. My mitering skills aren't too bad, but I suppose that's given a nice right angle, with the sort of crap I have in this house they're more...

    Small window ledge

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I certainly was going to finish the edges to match the bullnose, quite looking forward to that bit- not too tricky! Hmm, I fear messing with the plaster could have dire consequences, I don't feel the extension was done to the highest standard :/

    Small window ledge

Thanks. So you guys can't think of a more accurate way to profile this than the lining paper technique? Using a tape measure means I can't get the same angles. Short of using a flexi curve from an old drawing kit, not sure what else I can use!

    Small window ledge

Cheers. I guess I'm comparing myself to my dad's handy work, also diy, but mm perfect :) Yep, the chip is a shame, for sure. This first attempt is in a downstairs toilet that's seldom used. The next one will be visible all the time! Any tips for a fresh install?? How do you accurately...

    Small window ledge

Hey guys, In our utility area there are two windows which need window ledges. I have the wood (bull nose hardwood). I have done one but it didn't go brilliantly. So.. 1.Existing one How can I attach it? Grip fill? I had expected it to sit nicely and not need attaching. The ones my dad has done...

Irregular ceiling hole - padding out

I don't really get that, it looks like it will need a 14cm hole, but then will accept a 'standard' size spot, like gu10?

Irregular ceiling hole - padding out

Hey guys, The previous occupants of our house had a rubbish light in one room. Removing it has left a hole around 14cm diameter. Not wanting to repair the hole and patch it up I purchased a recessed spot, requiring 14cm cut out. Fitted it today and there's some gaps around it as it seems...

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

Not too fussed for a flat plate tbh, one like I have which stick out but say 7mm is fine. Will be the only dimmer in the house! Because it's going to be a nursery, soon, I figured low light might be helpful.

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

Presumably that's just if I used one that won't fit in a 16 mm box?

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

The varilight all look to need more than 16 mm back box, this looks like it may fit the bill http://cpc.farnell.com/danlers/dp1dled/dimmer-1g-led-250w-min-5w/dp/PL14975

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

Ah, I see, I did not notice that, or realise it. Many thanks for pointing it out. With most people using led or energy saving, 60w seems like a very high load no? Considering this was purchased about a year ago. Oh well, looks like I can't use my nice spare chrome dimmer, any other lights on...

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

Ah I get you, sorry, being a numpty, you mean the depth of the box, because of the black bit on the back of the dimmer. I wee what you mean. I'll check it out.

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

Oh and really I should get a small length of earth wire and connect to the box and switch, and leave existing earth cable where it is?

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

I don't have a box for it, it was left over from a bathroom renovation as a spare. I thought all switches were universal size? Not sure I follow here. Thanks for the note about dimmable, yes, I have an led flush light which is dimmable (with fixed bulb).

    Fitting a chrome dimmer

Hey guys, I want to fit a chrome dimmer in place of a plastic switch. I have take pictures of the current install as I'm a little confused. My guess is that I detach the yellow and green from the box and attach to the grounding cable on the dimmer? Otherwise the switch would be live right...

    Upvc vs wood

Hey guys, This is a little 'off topic' since I'm not going to do this myself, but I know there's lots of knowledgeable people here who can give advise... We have an odd double door system at the front of our house, unsightly vpvc doors the a small gap then a traditional front door with...

    Possible new boiler needed

I just hope it sorts everything on Monday - not looking forward to an entire weekend with no heating or hot water... my girlfriend is rather vexxed as you can imagine!

    Possible new boiler needed

For the pcb, nope, said he'd be back on Monday apparently (I wasn't there), which is disappointing since he's a Valiant engineer and it's an Ecomax, not like some mega old obscure model!
