    Possible new boiler needed

The fixed priced repair from Valiant is exactly what we went for... not before having a local firm visit the day before. Local firm - 'I think a valve needs replacing but a someone else needs to confirm' Valiant - 'Needs a new pcb' So yeah, no heating or hot water until Monday :/ boo!

    Possible new boiler needed

He recently got his replaced and looked at Wich 5 star reviews basically, so it's not like I'm taking it as gospel. I've certainly heard about Pottetton being iffy, sure I remember seeing them on Watchdog in the 90s! But yeah, that's why I was asking for bad ones really, but guess everyone...

    Possible new boiler needed

That's certainly what I'm hoping! Usually I'd look t reviews of a big purchase for a little while, however, I figure if I need to choose a new boiler I need to make the decision pretty swiftly! A colleague said Worcester bosch then valiant, and avoid Pottetton (do they even exist anymore)

    Rear window heater tab

Hey everyone, The tab which connects to the rear window has fallen off, hence no heat to defrost or demist ability. I looked on YouTube and it seems you can buy some kit with conductive epoxy and Wipes. Could I not use electrical contact spray on each surface and a small bit of duct tape to...

    Possible new boiler needed

Should add I think it's about 8 years old (we've only been in the property a year), and the previous owner had it serviced each year, and we had it serviced in about September, when the guy (we've used before) said it was in pretty good knick. Coincidentally, it first started playing up on one...

    Possible new boiler needed

Hot water was the first problem - I had a shower just fine, then stone cold for my girlfriend, about an hour or so later. Switched boiler off and on again, then it worked. Next day the same. Next day hot water for about 30 seconds then freezing cold, switch off and on did nothing to change it...

    Possible new boiler needed

Hey guys, Our Valiant EcoMax boiler seems to be on the blink. We've got someone coming to look at it on Thursday to have a look, ever the pessimist I'm thinking if the worst comes to the worst and we have to replace it what I should go for. I can see from the sticky that recommendations aren't...

Central heating not reaching set temperature

Hey guys, We have a valiant combi boiler, serviced and checked a month or two ago (by someone we've been using for years at another property), and a honeywell hc60ng thermostat unit. We use this on 'manual' mode, if I come in and switch it to on, with the temperature arrows set to say 21, it...

    Which eggshell?

Hello everyone, I'm trying to decide on an eggshell paint to paint some wardrobe doors. I'm not sure which brand to choose so I'm wondering if people have any tips/past experience etc... We're after a pale grey, it seems the following ranges would fit: Laura Ashley Crown Period Craig and...

    Painting wardrobe doors

But all the time on here is when I'm unable to do diy, such as commuting, or similar! It'll be done in between a quick fix and properly, as 100% properly would be finished in about 6 months with the time I get!

    Painting wardrobe doors

Oh right, I'd never considered that! I guess if you use oil based primer and water based top coat you avoid the 'yellow' issue you get with oil based top coats? That's one reason we've been using water based satinwood thus far. Managed, eventually, to get all the hinges and catches off. A...

    Painting wardrobe doors

Thanks for the reply. I went and read about coverstain, it sounds good but quote a few reports of it being hard to use in brush format? Leaving bad brush marks due to drying too quick and dragging etc. Did you not find this, or did you use a spray? So you reckon, despite me having (I found a...

    Painting wardrobe doors

I must confess, when I got them from the shed I did think they weren't as intricate as I remember. The tall doors are a little different and the top rail (fixed in place) is more so. I already have a large can of zinsser. The coat now is gloss, so they'll need something no? Either a good key...

    Painting wardrobe doors

Oh an the doors don't appear to be standard width so replacing them would be very problematic from what we can tel (or just expensive)

    Painting wardrobe doors

Here you can see the front, back and hinge of the door. As you can see, the previous occupants decided to just paint the front of the doors (badly), the back is still decent wood, so painting that should be quite simple. As regards the front... How about 1. Sand some parts if necessary -...

    Which paint for mist coat?

I used a massive tub of crown from b and q that was 10 quid for 10 litres. I had thinning instructions on it for plaster. It worked a treat, you'll need to brush it on though. I used a roller first, it was as if a wet dog had shook! My top coat x2 was dulux trade supermatt. I'm happy either...

    Painting wardrobe doors

I'll take a pic whe I get home. Also in my arsenal is some polycel liquid sandpaper, which I'd also purchased but not tried yet for this task. Not sure if I could use this instead of the zinsser, or as well as, so first then zinsser then top coat.
