    Extending a concrete base?

I planning on extending a concrete base that my greenhouse is currently sat on. One edging face of it is beginning to crumble away so I thought that extending that edge by a further 12" should help preserve it? I seem to recall hearing that PVA solution should be applied to the edging face of...

    Pop up waste broken

I have a pop up waste plug in my bath, with the adjusting knob higher up on the side of the bath. But my son stood on the pop up plug and I couldn't get it to pop back up again. Ended up having to drill it out!! If I put the plug back in then it drops to the 'down/closed' position. How can I...

    Single or double panel rads?

I need to replace my old radiators. So, assuming the btu of the following two radiators was the same, which is better.. 2000mm single panel or 1300mm double panel Is it just down to aesthetics and how slim I want the rad, or does one use less/more energy than the other?

    Poor brickwork?

The bricks didn't have to be cut, but I wanted the bottom track to sit flush with the internal floor. Otherwise the track would have stood proud of the internal floor requiring me to have to step over it.

    Poor brickwork?

Thanks for the replies. Ive emailed the company and will be phoning them on Monday. Im going to ask them how they intend to resolve the problem, but its nice to know beforehand how it should be done. That way I know if they are trying to rip me off again.

    Poor brickwork?

Thank you for the replies. I am in the process of writing to the company concerned. For clarification, please could you elaborate on what 'brick edge snappers' means. I guess it simply refers to a course of bricks laid on edge? Thanks

    Poor brickwork?

Ive just had a set of new aluminium bifold doors fitted and I've only just noticed that the brickwork/mortar underneath the doors look extremely poor. They had to cut a row of bricks in order to lower the door threshold, but it looks like they've used expanding foam and spacers instead of...

    Replacing fireplace lintel?

Good idea, but the lintel appears to be concrete, not stone. Im tempted to remove the surplus bricks and just fix a piece of timber to the wall to make it look like its a supporting lintel. If I do this, should it be fixed to the wall before plastering, or after?

    Replacing fireplace lintel?

Id be getting a tradesman to do this work, but I just wanted to know what would be involved and how big a job it would be to replace the concrete lintel with a nice piece of timber such as oak? Im getting this room replastered and when finished id like to have a wooden mantel piece sticking...

    block paving sealer

Id say it needs to be bone dry. When I used Resiblock sealer the instructions said to let the blocks dry out for 2 weeks if it had been jet washed, and not to apply if rain is expected in the following 12/24 hrs.

    Plaster or plasterboard?

Im leaving the coving in place due to its age, and id prefer to leave the skirting in place as well.

    Plaster or plasterboard?

Ive removed all the old plaster from a room in my house, but I'm unsure whether to get it wet plastered in the traditional way, of get it plasterboard then skimmed? Does one have any advantage over the other for me, the home owner? I guess plasterboard is easier for the plasterer to use, and...

    Fireplace lintel?

Im genuinely of the same opinion. However, that flu runs up through my sons bedroom, so not sure if I'd take the risk. I guess if some of the brickwork behind the plaster isn't 100% then id find out the hard way. Both BC and my conscience have me over a barrel.

    Fireplace lintel?

Thanks Im not exactly sure what I want to replace it with, but if I can widen the fireplace then id like it to look like this perhaps... Although i doubt I can afford to get a wood burning stove fitted correctly as i know the lining can be expensive. It would have to be just decorative...

    Fireplace lintel?

This is more of a general question as I'm trying to understand how the brickwork & lintel in my 1930's house came to look as they do... Ive just ripped out our fireplace as we want a new one. But after exposing the lintel I'm wondering what purpose the course of bricks underneath serve? I...
