Mortar setting when freezing temperatures forecast (-1 to - 3C)

Even if its the external gable wall that was filled? I was thinking about the external wall surface temperature.

Mortar setting when freezing temperatures forecast (-1 to - 3C)

Hello, We just had some brick work done to fill a small hole left by an old gas extractor fan. Should I be worried that within 12 hours of this being done the temperature is forecast to get as low as - 1 to - 2C? It's also forecast to get as low as - 3C within 24 hours. Could this cause any...

    External window silicone gaps

Good point, no one will really notice it anyway and saves me some extra work Thanks

    External window silicone gaps

Thanks very much for all your suggestions and advice I'll give it a go and if it feels too dodgy up the ladders get someone else in to do it Should I just use a standard file to smooth down that lump of cement? I'm guessing that shouldn't cause any damage.

    External window silicone gaps

Thanks for going through the different options. All makes sense. I was just a bit apprehensive of spending too long up the ladders trying to remove silicone before applying a new bead. It took me ages to remove silicone from the shower tray recently, but hopefully it's easier to remove above...

    External window silicone gaps

Do you think I'd need to fill those gaps at all if I just cover with the trim? Don't fancy spending too much time up on the ladders if I can avoid it. I know how long it can take to remove silicone at the best of times at ground level! Or possible just fill those silicone gaps with expanding...

    External window silicone gaps

Thanks for all the suggestions. Just to check I've understood correctly. Could I use expanding foam instead of silicone and then cover with a trim? It's colder than the min 5C recommended for applying silicone so that might be a good idea to avoid having to wait until it gets warmer. In...

    External window silicone gaps

I've noticed some fairly big gaps in the silicone above a couple of our external windows. I was just wondering if we might be better trying to use something other than silicone to cover this? I'm thinking if we re-silicone, due to the size of gaps if might just break away again. See attached...

Instal new dry ridge or replace whole roof?

We're looking to replace our mortar roof ridge with a dry ridge, which is just under 9m in length (one single horizontal ridge only). Current ridge is leaking again due toortar breaking away. Been quoted prices from £800 - £1300 depending on if we want to replace the top row roof tiles either...

Fix roof ridge tile to fill gaps

I'm thinking that my best and most cost effective option over the longer term is possibly just to convert the whole ridge (8.5m horizontal length) to a dry fix system. Is it usually easy enough to convert an old mortar ridge to a dry fix system? Also any recommendations about the best system...

Fix roof ridge tile to fill gaps

I'm pretty handy at DIY but not that familiar with roofing work. Never used a trowel and had to Google dentil slips, but I'm willing to give it a try especially given the issues I've had finding reliable roofers so far. Re: dentil slips. I've attached a slightly clearer new photo which shows...

Fix roof ridge tile to fill gaps

Thanks for the quick response. The issue I have with this is that I had 2 separate roofers out just under 5 years ago to lift off, rebed and repoint. The first guy (Facebook recommendation costing £250) was a total cowboy and the very next day it was leaking in loads of water. I then got...

Fix roof ridge tile to fill gaps

Hello, I noticed some pretty large gaps in our roof in one of the roof tiles, which was recently repaired a couple of years ago. Please see photo. I was considering getting a roofer out to fix it but then I'm thinking it might be possible for me to do this myself as the tiles look fine, it's...

Mould on internal wall - possible penetration dampness?

Thanks for the reply. Should it be quite a straight forward job to remove and seal up any gaps left by the exterior unit? Is it likely to require any electrical work to secure and make the area safe? Thanks

Mould on internal wall - possible penetration dampness?

We've recently found patches of mould on the living room wall. One patch low down in particular (in photo). But mostly isolated spots across just the one section of wall (the one with the outside wall). There's also some marks around the mains socket, which doesn't look like mould, but possibly...

Repair veneer on flush chipboard fire door

Thanks for the comments. It's an internal bedroom door in a flat, but I'm not sure about the compliance side of things. Just having another think about it. I might be best screwing on a rail hook such as the one in the photo. I think that would blend in well and serve a purpose as well.

Repair veneer on flush chipboard fire door

Hello, This heavy duty wooden door has taken some damage from an over door hook. I'm hoping to tidy it up so it doesn't look as bad and was thinking some kind of tape secured across the length of the top of the door (top 2cm or so) might be the best solution with minimal effort required...

How to repair small hole in stainless steel sink

Is this stuff safe to use for a kitchen sink? It seems to focus on auto repairs and no mention of sinks.

Will most plumbers be able to do the welding or is it more of a specialised skill? Thanks

How to repair small hole in stainless steel sink

Lots of interesting ideas, thanks for all the suggestions! Fitting a new sink is a definite no go. I've had plumbers out before and they advised it could cause more problems because it is so tightly fitted. It's also the smaller and less used sink of a 2 sink configuration. Ideally looking...
