Who is a good manufacturer of sturdy 'farm gate' bolts?

I mean just standard slide bolts, such as: https://www.gards.co.uk/images/com_hikashop/upload/product/hd-bolt.jpg doesn't need to be lockable though.

Who is a good manufacturer of sturdy 'farm gate' bolts?

I have a typical wooden 5 bar 'farm gate' at the end of my drive and the horizontal bolt has just about had it. The old bolt length is about 9 inches, I'd like to replace it with something similar. However after searching online a lot of them seem to be cheaply made and don't look like they...

Bent door handle plate surrounding the lock - how would this have happened?

It does jam and creak a little when it's a hot day and the sun has been shining on it and it can be a little stiff to lock under such circumstances. Maybe it's been caused by moisture then frost over the years? I also just edited my first reply, as follows: I've also just taken the door handle...

Bent door handle plate surrounding the lock - how would this have happened?

Thanks but if that's the case then why is there no scuffing or scoring on the metal or the plastic, no sign of any dents, etc? Also, that door is right outside my bedroom window, I would have heard something (I"m a very light sleeper). Edit - I've also just taken the door handle apart and...

Bent door handle plate surrounding the lock - how would this have happened?

This is the outside plate of one of my PVC doors - my first thought was that somebody had tried to break in, although on closer inspection I see no marks or other signs of attempted prying or leverage in that area near the lock. The bend is on both edges of the outside plate too, the inner edge...

    Moisture meter for carpets

Can anyone recommend a reasonably but accurate moisture meter for carpets please? I understand that you can't generally use those designed for checking moisture levels in wood, etc because the meter needs to have a setting specifically for carpets?

Toilet - wooden with white plastic coating. How to fix a tiny chip?

I've always thought that 100% plastic seats were a bit thin and seemed cheap and ready to break. Do you have any recommendations?

Toilet - wooden with white plastic coating. How to fix a tiny chip?

Thanks. I've also just found my receipt, it's under two years old, I wonder if B&Q would honour the two year guarantee and replace it ........

Toilet - wooden with white plastic coating. How to fix a tiny chip?

This is the seat that I have: https://www.diy.com/departments/bemis-ultra-fix-denver-white-round-standard-close-toilet-seat/303657_BQ.prd The inner rear edge of the seat has a very tiny chip in it, no idea how it got there. The chip is maybe 2 to 3mm long. I want to cover it to avoid water...

External waste pipe from washing machine - need a new Pushfit elbow joint but can't find one to fit this 43mm diameter pipe

Thanks again Chris. Think I'll probably go with the compression elbow because it'll be easier to dismantle if ever required.

External waste pipe from washing machine - need a new Pushfit elbow joint but can't find one to fit this 43mm diameter pipe

Ah, I see. Thanks. That explains why the old elbow never seemed to fit right and sometimes came loose (it was installed before I moved to this property). So something like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282352950701 In my case it's for outside use of course but I can't see how that would...

External waste pipe from washing machine - need a new Pushfit elbow joint but can't find one to fit this 43mm diameter pipe

The waste pipe in question (and the bit that sticks out of the wall) has an outside diameter of 43mm and I need a new Pushfit 90 degree elbow joint for it, something like this: https://www.homebase.co.uk/make-push-fit-90-degrees-bend-40mm/12831236.html In fact I had a spare one that was marked...

Oil boiler - cost of a new pump and motor seems over the top

Thanks John, I assume that the motor just uses two bearings of the same size/type?

Oil boiler - cost of a new pump and motor seems over the top

Thanks, that gives me some hope. I'm going to check out Heating World of Spares tomorrow but just out of interest where did you buy the parts for yours?

Oil boiler - cost of a new pump and motor seems over the top

Thanks, but is an average layman such as myself allowed to work on an oil boiler which usually requires an accredited service engineer?

Oil boiler - cost of a new pump and motor seems over the top

I have an intermittent fault (strange noise) with my Danesmoor 15/19 which could be the oil pump, the motor or the fan. As the fault is intermittent and only happens for a few minutes at a time I'm not planning on doing about it right now, however I have some prices for the above parts for my...
