    What's your weekend plans?

Me, it'll be a few beers and a glass of wine tonight, wee shot on the guitar if my wee boy allows it. Hopefully a nice weekend and me and mum will take him out somewhere. Then i think i'll make a nice curry on Saturday night for me and the missus. Then i'll be plastering a hole in the ceiling...

    Finding out what I've got

Windows XP will recognise most webcams right off the bat. Though you won't get the fancy software options that come with the webcam software. Have you checked device manager for the model of webcam?

Lack of support from the wife

Absolutely, wouldn't dream of doing my own electrics. It's a tricky situation because the kitchen is so expensive. I might let the kitchen go and do the loft myself becasue the loft materials are cheap. Then when the loft is all done i can say "told you so", whilst pushing her through the...

Lack of support from the wife

Hey folks. Here's the situation. I like a bit of DIY, to save money and for my own enjoyment more than anything else. Everything i've done so far has turned out great, Tiling, replace skirting boards, renewing a lawn etc. But when it comes to anything a bit more involved the wife won't...

Drilled hole TOO BIG for screw/rawlplug

This used to happen to me all the time. The solution? Don't drill the hole to the same depth as the rawplug is long. Drill it at least 1/2" deeper, or more if the plaster is thick. You know when you hit brick when the sound of the drill changes.

best way for a novice to fix this (with photo)

It looks about 1/2" thick, and i see what you mean about the plaster, push up plenty so it overlaps the lathe.

    stopping smoking

Me and the wife both stopped about three or four years ago. To be honest i thought it was pretty easy. I know you probably hate people who say that. Good luck with it. Take up a hobby is all i can recommend.

best way for a novice to fix this (with photo)

Do you think i'd be better off plastering over the lathe, rather than plasterboard. I don't want to cut any more away due to the mess it creates. I'm thinking a rough coat at first, let it dry and then another coat to bring it level and then i'll get some artex and try and blend it in. The...

best way for a novice to fix this (with photo)

Hi Guys, I recently installed a loft ladder that involved lengthening and widening the hatch. All went well but i took away a bit of plaster on the ceiling. What's the best way to fix this? Plasterboard, or just try re plastering that patch and do my best to recreate the stippled artex effect...

old water tank in loft - Safe to remove?

The boiler is a vokera linea 28, and the pressure gauge is sitting just above 1 bar. For another post, the presure drops every time i top it up (no sign of leaks)

old water tank in loft - Safe to remove?

The water in the small tank is very stagnant. The water in the big one looks fairly clean (but it has a cover) I will definately get the wife to run the taps while i check, just to be sure.

old water tank in loft - Safe to remove?

In the room below there are cut and blanked pipes directly below the old tank. this is another reason why i'm sure it is defunct.

old water tank in loft - Safe to remove?

Well they are still plumbed in, if i push the ball cock down they start refilling.

old water tank in loft - Safe to remove?

Yeah well, as i keep finding to my dismay, the previous occupants were prone to doing stuff on the cheap. I'm doing the loft conversion myself, just fitted the new hatch and retractable ladder. Happily, the water tank is made of wood and lined with what looks like zinc, so i'll drain it and...

old water tank in loft - Safe to remove?

I'm pretty confident it doesn't do anything, i don't hear it filling up when using water etc.

old water tank in loft - Safe to remove?

Hi guys, Currently in the middle of a loft conversion. In the loft there's an old water tank and smaller tank next to it (both are still plumbed in and have water in them). We have a combi boiler and i think this is the old storage tank and expansion tank from before the combi was installed...
