    Hot water tank thermostat

Thanks for all the replies. Was a bit confused when I saw the video which said the thermostat at the bottom should be Economy 7, but didn't think that would be the case. I have central heating that warms the cylinder.

    Radiators needing bled every week

Bleeding just the radiators, have never refilled them. Just until the water turns from dark to clear, and that sorts the radiator for a week approx. It's an older central heating system we've got, 2003 I think it was installed.

    Radiators needing bled every week

We moved into a house which was derelict for a few months at least after the previous owner passed away, and the radiators apart from 3 have never worked correctly. Constantly have to bleed them as only about a quarter of the radiator will heat up, about once a week. That's two upstairs...

    Hot water tank thermostat

My indirect coil cylinder, only has a thermostat at the bottom which is secured onto the cylinder but nothing wired on top. Firstly, am I correct in saying I have no electric immersion heater? Secondly, is this thermostat okay being supplied from your normal electricity meter? Reason I ask...

    Filler on skirting once painted

Painting white MDF skirtings and have filled the nail holes and painted an undercoat and primer, and two coatings of quick dry satinwood. I can still see where I've filled over the nails though, either a slight bump where I've not sanded enough or a slight curve where I guess I should've applied...

Should the earth be after the stop valve or is it okay where it is? I suspect the former. Thanks

    sanded Artex - in trouble?

I used to worry about it in our new house (1978) but everyone I spoke to and especially joiners who work with it a lot didn't seem overly concerned. Said if it was a worry to him he wouldn't be doing what he did for a job.

    Downlight clearance

Replacing existing downlights in my kitchen, with a 200mm void between my kitchen roof and bedroom floor. What type of downlight would be recommended? Obviously depending on manufacturer, but what is the normal recommended clearance for situations like this?

    Black tar like on T+E

The other 3 aren't my photos, just the first one. Absolute no green on my cables

    Black tar like on T+E

Thanks for your reply. I am still not convinced it is this, as the house was built in 78. I am thinking it might be from the trunking , I will know for sure if it is when I make a few 20mm holes through it.

    Black tar like on T+E

I am an electrician and have the correct testing equipment, so yes I will be changing the CU myself. And I have never seen this on cables in a domestic installation - hence the question!

    Black tar like on T+E

A search of bitumen and looks like that. Possibly when cutting through the trunking in the picture?

    Black tar like on T+E

Thanks for your reply. Not 100% convinced though, as the substance isn't green.

    Black tar like on T+E

Changing my consumer unit and noticed on the twin and earth are covered in a black tar like substance, some still sticky and wet, other dried in. Is this maybe been a type of lube to pull the cables through the wall/up roof, or are the cables melting?! See below Thanks
