    Garage on boundary???

I have contacted the council on this, but no response yet. Was wondering if anyone had any experience of this? My garage is on my boundary, and the door is 3m back from my boundary. I'd like to extend it to the boundary and put in a roller door. My builder mentioned that i can't go to the...

Dual mains feed into the house?

My question is - is it worth it??? I have just converted 2 flats into a single house and have 2 stop cocks in the street right next to each other. The path is currently up so i can replace the lead pipes. I have just replaced one lead pipe with a 25mm MDPE. This is connected to the 20mm...

    Shower extractor fans??

Not sure if this is the right section, but here goes...... I need to fit 2 extractor fans - one for above the shower with a light in, and one for a utility room. The utility room is beside the shower with no outside wall, so i am planning to build a small false ceiling in the bathroom that...

Which down lighter and bulb options?

There has been a lot of discussion on here, but i can't really find a definative answer. Which down lighters are the most cost effective to install and run, with which bulbs? I am specifically after 230v dimmable with adjustable lamp direction. If people dont like downlighters ( i picked...

    Corner returns on new extension.

My new extension juts out from the house and has a centrally located patio door. What is the minimum distance from the corner of the extension to the door frame? I have been told this is 500mm external, but have nothing to substantiate this. Thanks Huw

    Underfloor heating in Kitchen

I was going to do this and have now changed my mind. Spoke to a few people who say that it's not all that good and a few others who have had a nightmare trying to get it to work. It is also expensive to run - info from a few electrician mates who could have sold me a system - they advised...

Advice on planning / building a double detached garage.

I don't think the area is an issue for planning as i spoke to them )portsmouth) yesterday about the same thing. I am planning a 7m by 5m garage on my boundary. The main issue was the height. As it is on the boundary, the max height before planning permision is required is 2.5m. I have yet to...

    Lighting circuit and extractor fan

Ban - No 2. You give good advice mate and i appreciate it, but continually harping on about the regs is a bit tedious. (I bet you have driven over 70mph before! ) My sparky has also demonstrated how he wants to see the wiring done and anything he is not happy with will have to be redone...

    Lighting circuit and extractor fan

I am rewiring my downstairs. No i'm not doing any of the connecting to the CU, just the donkey work - chasing, running cables, connecting light fittings, etc that will all be left hanging for my sparky mate to check. I plan to do it as a loop in system. Coming away from the consumer unit the...

Earth bonding a mix of plastic and copper.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Good point about the earth - i recall an earth cable coming from my incomming electrical supply to a connector block, but not looked at it that closely yet. Will be tonight though. House was built in 1935 so not 'really' old. Thanks again Huw
