    Which cistern float valve?

Looks good. Is it easy to fit in the cistern? do you still attach the ball? Also, I'm not sure there's enough room for it to fit next to the exisitng black plastic thingy.

    Which cistern float valve?

My existing float valve is leaking. Either I try to get a new washer or I replace the whole thing which may be simpler. On one website BES.co.uk I think I can identify my valve as a piston type brass bottom entry, but there are a lot of choices Which one out of these 2 is considered...

Cistern ball valve leaking but also too tight to undo

Hi. the overflow from my toilet is dripping. The ball itself is at the right level but the valve it attaches to is dripping after the correct level is reached. I assume I need to replace a washer. There are a couple of large fittings on the valve but they do not budge with waterpump...

    Splits in electric grill element

I didn't know what that was, but a quick check on Wikipedia says: Inhalation of magnesium oxide fumes can cause metal fume fever

    Splits in electric grill element

Sounds nasty. When the heat is off you can see a sort of white/grey pumice substance peeking from the cracks. The oven (Neff) is ancient and I really just want to use it for another few months until I get a new oven sorted. I don't think its worth the money or hastle to replace the element...

    Splits in electric grill element

Up until now I have only used the main cavity of the old oven that was here when I moved in. I used the grill section for the first time today and while it worked fine I noticed that there appears to be splits in the element. The element went the usual red with the heat but the split bits were...

I find it too hard to start my petrol mower - any advice?

There's nothing wrong with it. From new I couldn't start it. When a guy tries, no problem, but I'm just not strong enough and don't pull the rope hard enough or correctly. Choke's fine etc, as I say others can start it just not me. Are there any tricks or ways to make starting easier????

Mixed sizes solid oak boards & do I remove existing floo

I’m a newbie at it but would like to fit European Solid oak 130mm x 18mm constructional strength boards direct to joists. The supplier sells them in packs of random lengths mixed from 300-1200mm and therefore will not all straddle the joists. What do you do in this instance? I have a mixture...

Exterior grout gaps moss some lifting need to patch regrout?

What grout would you recommend for patching grouting gaps in an outdoor tiled balcony terrace? I have quite old 15cm x 15cm beige clay type tiles with tough grout outside on a terrace over a bedroom extension and they are leaking a bit through. There are gaps and moss in some of the grout...

Quick question about cable (flex) sizes please

I would put the new socket a the same level as the cable. It goes around just one corner. I have an Auto ranging digital multimeter (not that I know how to use it yet  ).

Quick question about cable (flex) sizes please

They appear to go along just above skirting board level. Does that help?

Quick question about cable (flex) sizes please

Yes I will connect the 2 micromark lights with flex like that but I got carried away with the whole thing and started planning additional lights and sockets in the room. There is no ceiling light so it needs a bit of oomph. I like that torch too :D

Quick question about cable (flex) sizes please

Detective Electrician? I may as well tell you what I'm doing so you can all laugh. There's a speaker system in the lounge neatly chased into the walls. I don't use it. It is not speaker wire though but 2.5mm T&E, with the E ignored and the other two connected with speaker connections...
