    Woodex for sash windows

I've read about Accoya and its benefits. I'll ask my joiner whether he works with Accoya, but it's not that I'd distrust Woodex altogether. Also, not sure about price diff, if it's 10-15% more, maybe worth going with something tried and tested. Having said that, I do believe any wood of that...

    Woodex for sash windows

First time I hear about the "Light" windows. It's the one that the bottom half slides to the top. I think the old ones used to slide from the top to bottom as well, but that's not something I'm after, nor do I know whether that's possible or handy. I've never opened my current ones from the top...

    Woodex for sash windows

He said that he's using Woodex for the inside and European red pine for the external? If I remember well. The windows will be weight-balanced. He's also going to call FENSA on days 2 and 3 of the installation, if that means anything. So I think you're spot on. Why do you reckon he's not being...

    Woodex for sash windows

I was told by a joiner that he uses Woodex softwood to create sash windows. I was wondering, is this good material?

    Adjusting the door closer

In my building the door slams every time it closes. I tried adjusting the speed of the door closer, but the instructions show 3 points of adjustment, whereas I only managed to find one (the side one) and adjust it with an Allen key. Am I missing something? I can't find the rest of the screws...

Increase internal door height and replace with new ones

This is not exactly a DIY as I won't be doing this myself. I wanted to ask for the collective wisdom of what type of contractors this will entail (who will I need). I want to increase the door height in my flat. Above the existing doors is hollow (plaster) and can be knocked down. I will need a...

    Wood joins problem

No sorry, between the acoustic underlay and floor there's 6mm thickness plywood to avoid that springiness. This was as per the manufacturer's guidelines. Still, at both doorsteps, the floor looks somehow a tad elevated, as if it expanded a little bit that causes that elevation, that then is...

    Wood joins problem

It's just a gap that's not even. The wider end of the gap is about 0.5cm. And it is indeed a weak spot as the floor is ever so slightly elevated, and you can see it bending when someone walks on top of it. No, you're right, they're not. But they're in two very central spots, one under my...

    Wood joins problem

Bumping this as I didn't get a solution apart from installing door strips, which I'd like to stay away from. How about wood filler?

Gap between skirting floor and wooden floor

    It's these: https://www.ikoustic.co.uk/products/floor/perimeter-flanking-band-fb8 https://www.insulationsuperstore.co.uk/product/jcw-acoustic-isolation-strip-5mm-x-150mm-x-10m-roll.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMImumR49Cs6QIVVZ3VCh2-XQkTEAQYBSABEgJGHPD_BwE...

Gap between skirting floor and wooden floor

I'd do the same, I'm quite a perfectionist, but at my job (and I'm not a builder, closer to software development! ). Walls are freshly painted, and skirting is screwed on wall etc, all done a few months ago, so I wouldn't re-do it. Any guns that you can suggest from Builder Depot or Amazon that...

Gap between skirting floor and wooden floor

Wow, a lot of useful info, thanks for that! Regarding terminology, we more or less agree. That's what the builder used to caulk the skirting boards: https://www.builderdepot.co.uk/evo-stik-decorators-caulk-white-380ml And that's what I used as an acoustic sealant (mastic) to do the other bit I...

Gap between skirting floor and wooden floor

Thanks, I was reading about caulk and found out that it is indeed inflexible once it sets. I used mastic in some other areas to seal similar gaps, although not up and down, rather in between the skirting and floor (if you know what I mean). I really wanted to stay away from beading, that's why I...

Gap between skirting floor and wooden floor

I've installed this new floor and used acoustic underlay (mutemat-3) and plywood below the wooden floor. The floorboards weren't changed and are quite old and crooked (in retrospect I should have changed them but wasn't guided to do so). Also, perimeter strip (a foamy strip) has been installed...

Costs to fix a drain + scaffolding

I have no idea why it's made like this. The building is 100+ old, so don't know if that restricted somehow. Further, the building has been typical under a managing agent, so I guess no alternatives are usually provided, and cheap work has been done most of the times.
