TV: Edge Lit vs Full LED Array

Thanks Lucid for your detailed reply. Agreed the clips are interesting, I can see some difference there. Looks like the 9505 then, unless there's anything else recommended around the same price range?

TV: Edge Lit vs Full LED Array

Hi I hoped someone might be able to offer some advice: I'm looking at 2 Sony tvs, XH8505 series which is edge lit display, and XH9505 series, which seems very similar in most respects, except it has Full Array LED and costs about £150 more. I realise that the one has leds only at the edge of the...

Remote control of heating without Nest/Hive or similar

Good point, ours is fairly old, doesn't have yellow or blue integral lagging, just strap on cylinder jacket, ( well 2 actually) it does retain heat for easily 18-24hrs, but I don't know what the coil will be.

Remote control of heating without Nest/Hive or similar

Interesting post Eric, your hot water takes only 20 minutes to heat up,? mine seems to take ( conventional open vented cylinder) easily an hour to fully heat. Do you have you boiler stat set near max?

    Energy History how?

I thought the idea was the roomstat would provide the main temperature control Eric ? If its on most of the day, doesn't that mean the boiler is running just to heat pipework if the TRVs have closed? Would it not be more economical to allow the roomstat to cycle the boiler on and off?

Do you know of any quiet /very quiet electric showers please?

I once had a flat in a converted warehouse, there were 8 floors, water was fed from a storage tank in the basement by pumps. The pressure was quite high, all flats had a conventional non pumped triton electric shower, so, might be possible for you, depending upon supply pressure/ flow rate. As...

Seeking way to automate rotation of temperature knob on gas boiler

How about a wireless room stat ? No need to drill walls then.

Is there a general combi boiler brand which is considered best value for money?

Interesting information in the above posts. No one seems to be recommending Worcester Bosch or Vallaint ?

    Alternative to Gas Boiler ?

Interesting. I wondered what boiler you have; is it possible to switch any condensing combi to operate in this mode? Would Opentherm or Weather compensation achieve the same? Any link available for info to the IoT device you mention?

    Alternative to Gas Boiler ?

Do all combis have the room temp / low temp facility? That sounds a good system, do you have to switch it over manually then ?

    Alternative to Gas Boiler ?

No,it is not opentherm or load compensated, the hall roomstat is just on/ off. There is no display of flow temperature, there is just a knob to set boiler temperature, 60 - 80 Deg C I think. ( It isn't condensing., and doesn't modulate as far as I know, it's just on/ off.) Turning this down does...

    Alternative to Gas Boiler ?

Is it possible to achieve this if I just turn down my ( non condensing ) heat only boiler setting, once the house and hot water is up to temperature?

    Alternative to Gas Boiler ?

We have all those except underfloor heating, its all rads, but yes thats interesting if its a possibility with radiators.

    Alternative to Gas Boiler ?

Have heard the government announcement today that gas boilers are to be phased out. Mine is due for replacement soon, or, I thought it should be! But... It now seems it might not be the best thing to do? Are there any actual realistic , cost effective, options, instead of gas, for a well...

    Replacement Boiler/Boiler Plus Regulations

Hi, Am just looking for some advice from experts: Thinking of replacing an 18yr old Glow Worm Micron 60FF in a Y plan system and cylinder, and changing to a combi, probably Worcester Bosch ( as this seems to have good reports and loads of people I know have one.) The house is semi detached...

Coax splitter instead of loop through ?

Ok, thanks for the advice. It sounds more complex than I had thought! Will leave as is anyway.

Coax splitter instead of loop through ?

Ok, good advice then, thanks! Out of interest, what's the lowest signal strength could go before it did become an issue ? Thanks again.

Coax splitter instead of loop through ?

Further on to my original post, I've used a passive splitter and it's been working fine. Signal quality reads 100% on all channels, with signal strength 60 - 85% as measured by the humax. Picture reception seems fine with no deterioration. I just wanted to ask, if I decided to try the powered...
