New thermostat not turning ventral heating OFF

Hi, I have a Worcester greenstar 28i junior combi boiler and a tower rf wireless thermostat that I purchased from toleration which I am trying to install to replace the wired British gas one. The wires connected to the old British gas one were brown to the L terminal, blue to the N terminal...

Advice needed on sealing a bath against existing tiling when replacing shower tray with a bath

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately the guy who took the shower screen had to break the tiles to get the screen out (it was installed before the tiles) and they are big (about 18in x 12in) so the bottom row have been damaged and the next row up are the ones that need removing so if I damage...

Advice needed on sealing a bath against existing tiling when replacing shower tray with a bath

Ah, that's what I was afraid of. So is there any recommended way to channel out the tiles or of removing them without damaging them? I don't want to take any unnecessary risks but re-tiling the while bathroom is way beyond what I can afford to do. Thanks for replying.

Advice needed on sealing a bath against existing tiling when replacing shower tray with a bath

Hi, I realise that what I'm asking is generally not a good idea and you should generally fit the bath first and then tile afterwards, however, we recently moved into a new house and the bathroom was only a few months old and therefore like new. The only problem is that it had a walk in shower...

Safe Use of Low Watt Radiators on an Extension?

Sorry, sent my reply before seeing your post. Your post has pretty much answered my follow up question so that was really useful. Thanks again!

Safe Use of Low Watt Radiators on an Extension?

Hi guys, Thanks for the quick responses. The extension is just a standard 4-plug/1 metre cable so sounds like it should be ok then. I would change the socket to a double outlet rather than a single but the heater lead isn't actually long enough to reach the power outlet so I would still...

Safe Use of Low Watt Radiators on an Extension?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone could give me a little bit of safety advice on connecting heaters through an extension lead. From reading through other posts on the forum, there seems to be a general rule that extensions should not be used to supply power to a heater. However, in...

New Central Heating System Installation (Birmingham)

Hello, I am currently looking at replacing our existing heating (which comprises of 4 wall mounted plug in electric panel heaters), with a gas central heating system. I am just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what sort of prices I should be looking for when I am getting...

Hot Water Tank Overflow Pipe Dripping

Hi John, Just a quick message to say thanks for all your help. I picked up a part 2 float valve last night and managed to fix the problem. I did as you said and left the existing stem attached to the side of the tank and just attached the working part from the new valve to it and it worked...

Hot Water Tank Overflow Pipe Dripping

Hi John, Thanks very much for the advice. I may not have been clear about the isolation valve - the valve in question was just one of the small in-line valves in the pipe that seems to be faulty (the ones where you use a screwdriver to open or close the water supply). In any case, there...

Hot Water Tank Overflow Pipe Dripping

Hi, Thanks for the fast response. I will post photos later today as my camera is at home at the moment with the pictures on it. You are correct that I have an electric hot water tank with a smaller cold water tank on top of it. There is nothing in the loft at all. The cold water feeds...

Hot Water Tank Overflow Pipe Dripping

Hi, I posted this thread last week but over the weekend I have found that the isolation valve in the cold water pipe leading to the tank is actually faulty (I turned it off and tried to empty the tank but the water still kept going in). The float valve also does appear to be leaking...

Hot Water Tank Overflow Pipe Dripping

Hi tincup, Thanks for the response. The only overflow pipe I can see coming out of the tank is coming from the top tank. I have removed the lid of the tank and there doesn't seem to be any dripping into the tank from the ball valve. The overflow pipe is slightly above the water level...

Hot Water Tank Overflow Pipe Dripping

Hello, I have a problem with a leak from one of the overflow pipes at the back of my house. I believe it is coming from the electric hot water tank in the airing cupboard and am not sure what could be causing it. I have turned off the isolation valve to stop cold water coming into the...

    Washing Machine Isolator Switch

Hi John, Thanks very much for your help. I have seen 13a isolator switches (with the neon indicator light on), but having read your comments, I'll get one of the 20a switches to be on the safe side. Thanks again, Ian

    Washing Machine Isolator Switch

Hi John, Thanks for the quick reply. Just out of curiosity, is there any reason why the isolator has to be a higher rating than the socket itself? Thanks again for your help. Ian

    Washing Machine Isolator Switch

Hello, I am hoping that someone may be able to help me. I have searched this site but not been able to find anything relating to this topic. I have a washing machine at home, fitted with a 13a fuse, which plugs into a standard wall socket. As the machine is under the worktop, there is an...

Certain sockets in house only work during Economy 7 hours

I've called npower who supply my electric and the meter etc and they have said that I need to speak to an electrician to find out how to get the supply switched. Apparently they are supplying all my electric on the standard tariff, which ties in with my bill, so I'm guessing that there must be...

Certain sockets in house only work during Economy 7 hours

Hello, I don't know if anyone has come across this problem before, but I have recently removed some old electric night storage heaters from my house which were wired into fused outlets on the wall. I have removed the fused outlet and replaced it with a standard plug outlet but when I plug an...
