Are UK ceiling rose covers universal?

A couple of my ceiling lights have got IKEA fittings on them. I want to replace them with normal bog standard UK ceiling pendant roses. The original back plates are still there (beneath the strange wonky plastic IKEA cup) but I'm missing the original ceiling rose covers. If I buy a couple of...

    Oil Tank in Building

It can't go under the garden because it wouldn't be 2m away from the road on 2 sides.:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry: Looks like my £2500+/year electric bill is here to stay then. I saved £500 this last winter by never heating above 14°. The house used to have an lpg boiler circa 1984...

    Oil Tank in Building

Thanks. But I still would like to know what a fire resistant chamber looks like. I might then see straight away that it's not a feasible option for our outbuilding. My only other options are LPG bottled gas, or stick with my electric heaters. :(

    Oil Tank in Building

I'm going to have central heating! Exciting times. But the only place to store an oil tank is within an out building. I want to research what options there are for a 60 minute fire enclosure before my plumber (who is oftec registered) comes round. But I can't find any pictures on the internet...

    (amps x voltage) ÷1000 = kw

Thank you. Interesting answer. I didn't realise that the motor is running so little in general use. I'd thought the low ampage was what it must be drawing constantly to keep it running. And that maybe it used even more for when it needed to reduce the temperature further. So losing internal...

    (amps x voltage) ÷1000 = kw

Ah yes, that's true. So how do they calculate how many kw/h it uses annually? And why is there a discrepancy between my calculations of kw and the label on the fridge?

    (amps x voltage) ÷1000 = kw

Hello Bear with me, I'm just a housewife of very little brain. But I thought that (amps x voltage) ÷1000 = kw. My fridge freezer says it's 1.4amp. Since it's a Liebherr brand I've multiplied that by 230v. I've got my own kind of logic. That gives me 0.322kw. Have I gone wrong right at the...

Mono / Mixer Tap Tails Internal Bore

They are about 2" too short. And one is on the wrong angle. And they are going straight onto compression isolating valves. I cant think what kind of joint would flex enough in such a short distance and would join a 15mm copper tail to a compression valve. I just thought a 30cm flexi would...

Mono / Mixer Tap Tails Internal Bore

Hello I'm fitting a mono/mixer tap to a basin. Its a low pressure system and they are low pressure taps. They have been supplied with copper tails, 12mm thread on the tap end (I think!) and 15mm the other end. The tails dont reach so I would like to get some flexis, but I want to keep the...

    2gang light switch enigma

Calling all sparkies, Ive got a 2gang switch. One is a 2-way switch (the porch light) which works fine. The other (the outside light) switches on both the outdoor light.... and the porch light  but dimly! Ah, you say, it's shorting. So I looked inside the switch and found another...

    low voltage lighting

Thanks for your reply. No, I havent fitted a dimmer, what with it being low voltage. You mentioned cheap transformers. Is price a good guide? Or are there any special words I should look out for when buying one in the future?

    low voltage lighting

Right, I've got a low voltage light fitting with inbuilt transformer. It has 4 bulbs (max 20w). I keep reading about these new led bulbs which fit mr11/mr16 but no one seems to know if they are completely interchangeable. So, do you know if you can replace all 4 with led's? Or can you just...

    dimmer switch

Thank you. I will fit a two way dimmer. Its just a bog standard 60w x2 fitting above the table. I like a good light in which to do my paperwork, but dont always want to see what I've cooked for tea all that closely!

    dimmer switch

Is it possible to fit a dimmer switch to a light fitting that has a two way switch and only one switch could have a dimmer fitted? The other end is part of a 3gang switch and I dont want to faff about with the wiring that end. Im guessing that it is possible, but that the light would switch on...
