Are UK ceiling rose covers universal?

A couple of my ceiling lights have got IKEA fittings on them. I want to replace them with normal bog standard UK ceiling pendant roses.

The original back plates are still there (beneath the strange wonky plastic IKEA cup) but I'm missing the original ceiling rose covers.

If I buy a couple of new ceiling rose pendants, what are the chances that they will screw onto the original backplate thread? They are circa 1984.

Thanks

Somewhere between not very likely and never going to happen.

Replacing the entire thing isn't particularly difficult, provided you note where each wire connects before removing the old one.
Power must be switched off first, not just at the light switch.

Ikea don't even seem able to produce beds and mattresses in 'standard sizes'
They used to do only euro sizes, but now sell UK sizes as well. The single is 90 x 190, the euro single is 90 x 200.

sometimes the make is embossed inside the baseplate and lampholder, same makes are generally used in each room, so if you have a pendant elsewhere in the house, it may be on that lampholder, BG are quite common size, Mk are smaller and Crabtree larger

Send a picture if you can, chances are someone may recognise the make.

Ashley would have been a very common make of ceiling rose around 1984, but who knows what you have.

Buy them.

If the covers fit, good, if not you'll have what you need to replace them completely.

... note where each wire connects before removing the old one ...
NB - this is extraordinarily important.

Ok. So I got my glasses and some steps and looked for a brand on the light fittings in other rooms.

Nothing.

So I bought an MK pendant and measured the cover on that. Interestingly, that hasn't got any brand embossed anywhere on it either. Of course it didn't fit. But as ban-all-sheds said, at least I now had what I needed.

So this morning I have rewired the rose. And the light works! My wiring doedn't look as neat as the original though.
