    Damp Block Shed- Ventilation Ideas?

Hi, I’ve recently moved into a house with a block built shed (painted, but not rendered or plastered) which is a real bonus but is extremely damp. I’ve already removed one of the old kitchen units which was next to a wall because it was so rotten and mouldy. I store some tools, paint etc. in...

    Enlarging letterbox slot- asbestos worry

Thanks for your reply. I'm not at all sure how old the door is, but the panel is about 5mm and looks hard rather than fluffy like MDF, so it sounds more like asbestos cement board. It's such a small job that I'm not keen to pay someone to look at it so I may just have to leave it.

    Enlarging letterbox slot- asbestos worry

Hi. I'm planning to extend the letter slot on my flat front door as it's currently too small for almost anything to fit through. The flat building was built in about 1900. The front door has what seems to be a fireproof panel attached to the inside, which is painted, and I'm worried that it...

Fitting coat hook rack in crumbling plaster

It's not plasterboard- as far as I can tell there's brickwork behind the plaster but I'm struggling to get into it with a fairly pathetic cordless drill. Fitting coat hook rack in crumbling plaster

Hi All, I'm trying to fit a rack for coat hooks in a wall- the rack has two holes to hang on screws. I've drilled holes in the wall for plugs but the plaster is crumbling away, so the holes just keep growing wider, and there's no way a plug will grip in there. Does anybody have any ideas as to...

Replacing electric cooker- 10mm cable for 10.7KW?

Hi. I've just bought a new cooker and I want to check whether the cable which is hard-wired to the old one will be adequate for it. The cable running to the old cooker is 10mm, and the new cooker (a Hotpoint HAE60P) is rated up to 10.7KW. Comet have offered to install the new cooker for £70...
