No bonding on property I'm renovating

riveralt, I can't see what your problem is :? ... what will not happen ? and why the silly comment about the ceiling ? I've had to replace many ceilings on the renovations I've done, never had a problem with any of them, I just get someone in to skim it ( and usually the walls)...

I can't understand why I need to inform the local authority about the work I'm doing myself, which is changing most of the sockets and switches, and install some bonding. I have come on these forums to find out if I can legally do this and the answers I've got suggests I can. I am fully...

No bonding on property I'm renovating

yes there will be other electrical work to be done, i.e. fans , extra sockets and fcu's for the kitchen. But I'm not putting any ceilings in till right at the end so most of the electrics are accessible, also although some channelling will need to be done, it will be very easily done using a...

Means of escape windows on a second floor ?

I'm a little confused about installing windows in two bedrooms on the second floor. The first window would replace an existing window, the second one would be a 'Velux' type window which will be fitted into a room that doesn't currently have a window (originally there was glass above the door...

what brand of switches and sockets should I buy ?

I think I know the answer I'm going to get :D I am renovating a property which I'm going to sell once done. I've managed to save thousands of pounds buy buying materials when they have been on offer or buying cheaper products (but not always). So, is it worth paying extra for a 'known'...

    Which chemical paint stripper ?

Thanks again both for your replies, I have looked at both products and they look good, unless the formula has changed like Nitromors has :? Also, someone near me has 25kg bags of Sodium Hydroxide which I am tempted to get, at £26 a bag it would work out at a fraction of the price Kling Stip...

I used a Wilkinsons own brand a few months ago and found it useless, my home brewed beer did a better job :D I'm reckoning it's the new 'safer' formula that is the problem :(

    Which chemical paint stripper ?

Thanks for the reply Dec, I have a face guard and rubber gloves which come up to my elbows (although I will have to check that they are suitable to use with a chemical stripper) but will have to get a suitable mask. I have been doing a bit of looking around the internet and it looks like...

    Which chemical paint stripper ?

I'm renovating a shop which was built in 1896, so I guessing it will have lead paint on it. So I want to strip it all off with a chemical stripper, but the last time I did this I found that the stripper was completely useless... Is there one that you would recommend ? thanks

What's my best choice, a timber or a concrete floor ?

Thanks for your reply Deluks, one room will be a lounge with carpet and the other will be a kitchen with some sort of vinyl covering. I think a timber floor would work out cheaper but would require a lot more work (digging out) Still scratching my head, :D

What's my best choice, a timber or a concrete floor ?

Hi, I am replacing 2 floors (ground) in a property which was built in 1896. I have removed both floors, one was a timber one with the floorboards laid on loose joists which in turn were laid on bricks directly on the earth. The other floor was quarry tiles laid directly onto the...

Thanks for your replies, I should of said, until 3 and a half years ago I was a self employed gas engineer but had to give it up for health reasons (knees), but almost all my work was installation and landlords gas safety certificates, didn't have time or interest to do breakdowns...

    Problem with Baxi 105e instant

Hi, I have a problem with my Boiler, a few days ago it stopped working. I thought it was the fan because it has been noisy for some time, but there is no power to the fan so i'm thinking now it must be the PCB. Acually there is power to the fan for a split second (fan moves a few...
