    Implications of replacing Consumer Unit?

This looks like a standard 16th edition install with RCD protection to the sockets and showers. Not compliant with current regulations but not unsafe. Are we really encouraging DIYers to take consumer units in bits now? I’m not sure that’s a route I’m particularly happy about taking.

    EICR Replacement Fuseboard Advice

The BG unit does not comply with electrical regulations so can not be installed. As others have said, you need to find a new electrician who can specify and source all the equipment required to replace your consumer unit.

    Conlock conduit

Are you surprised that house builders are now being forced to actually do something properly?
  4. RF Lighting

    Conlock conduit

Yes the standard is now chipboard sheets glued on the joints and glued and screwed to the joists with PU adhesive. This is to make the board edges / joints water resistant and to stop the squeaking of floorboards which plagued so many new build houses for a long time.

    Trunking inlet plate

We are about to have some new aluminium windows installed. These windows will be fitted with two electric openers per window This is the sort of opener. There will be two motors operating a single window. There will be a YT2 plastic trunking running left to right on the horizontal transom...

    All RCBOs?

Maybe if everyone on here starts encouraging people to use type B then it’ll help the price come down quicker. Yes I’m sure it will. We now have compact type A RCBOs so even if we go back to full height I’m sure the boffins will work out how to do it.

    All RCBOs?

Yes sorry type B. The cost implications will go away once it becomes a common device.

    All RCBOs?

From working in a slightly specialist industry I've known about the issues surrounding VSDs and RCDs for a while and generally we would design RCDs out of the supply which is relatively straight forward on a nice new commercial or industrial installation. It seems so obvious now, but it had...

    Failed EICR

I would expect to see installation method 101 used as a cover all / worst case scenario if the true method can not be established which is unlikely on a normal EICR.

    Storage heaters... asbestos?

Is there nothing under the flap or on the bottom lip next to where the flex enters the heater?

    Conlock conduit

The last few new build schools I have worked on all use plug and play wiring. Basically flex thrown in a basket above the suspended ceiling with a little splitter box above each light or socket. All the flex comes in pre-terminated lengths of 1,2,3,5,10,20m etc. The only on site termination is...

    Conlock conduit

I have used it, and it’s all that the UKs largest electrical contractor uses now. It’s horrible stuff in my opinion but then I’m also old fashioned and was brought up with threaded tube and fittings.

EICR Failed - Is the electrician trying to make more work ?

Interestingly back in the day when Schneider made MK’s RCBOs they were type A and they changed to type AC when the boards got all cheap and horrible.

EICR Failed - Is the electrician trying to make more work ?

I had forgotten about domae. They were made by Schneider and used merlin pattern circuit breakers. I seem to remember the busbar was at the bottom so annoyingly standard merlin and square D KQ breakers wouldn’t fit (the right way up!). MK LN RCBOs were also made by Schneider and were the same...

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F353379260676 There’s a couple of second hand ones knocking about on eBay. I don’t think you’ll find new as that range has been obsolete fora good while now.

    Change Circut breaker

The circuit breaker from tool station is for a completely different type of fuse box to yours and is completely unsuitable. You need to search for Wylex NSB 32A Wylex is the manufacturer. NSB is the range. 32A is the rating.

EICR Failed - Is the electrician trying to make more work ?

From my experience the local wholesalers will very quickly go out of stock of all the common flavours and just have some obscure ones left at the back of a shelf. They are normally available special order for at a guess 10 years after they go obsolete. It’s very difficult now to get new old...

    PIR floodlight stays on

Yes definitely sounds like it’s on it’s way out. Halogen floodlights are terribly inefficient and would best be replaced with an LED alternative. Do you know what wattage rating the current lamp is?
