Anyway, I did it properly & used high frequency fittings (thanks to the replys on this forum :D ). They were £20 dearer each, than the normal flourescents, but its quite a serious looking workshop & thats what he wanted.

Dunno about you lot but I got a conscience. I'm currently applying for my NIC DI & if I thought any of my work went up i smoke, I'd be pretty pi**ed off. I would do every job as if I was working on my own house. You cant apply for Approved Contractor until you've done at least 6 months of DI...

Fitting some fluorescent lights in a workshop tomorrow for a chipie. I thought I heard somewhere that if you have fluorescent lights on, when using, say, a circular saw, it looks like the blade isnt going round. Anyone else heard of this ?

I just want to clarify the 'Loop' settings on the MFT1552 I have. Single phase - If I was checking Zs on a RCD or non-RCD protected circuit I would put it on 'NO TRIP', or if I was checking Ze I could put it on 'NO TRIP'. (using red, black & green wires for testing) Single phase & 3 phase...

Right then, I'm filling out a Domestic Electrical Installation Cert & its asked for Maximum Demand. It says nothing about using diversity on the cert but in my Inspection, testing & cert book it says you can make an allowance for diversity. The circuits in my CU are Final ring for sockets...

When working out Maximum demand for lighting circuit, I've got 4 50w mains halogen spotlights. Is this classed as 200w? If I got 4 20w LV halogen spots, is this classed as 80w. Cheers.
