    Isolating gas oven

We have decided that we are going to get rid of our dual fuel oven and go all electric. There is a gas isolating valve on the supply to the oven and the oven is connected by a bayonet fitting. Is it acceptable to isolate the gas by using the valve and then put a compression stop end on the...

    Gas Fire Removal

Many thanks for the reply Tony. If i have it isolated by the restrictor elbow with a cap on the end of it, is that an acceptable practice? I am assuming this would be a cheaper option? Or is there a reason why 'the purists' say remove it? Our sofa will be going where the fire is now...

Hello, i want to take our gas fire out as it is never used and i can create more space in our living room by binning it. I am assuming i am not allowed to do it as i am not a gas man but what is needed to be done and how much (ish) would i be looking at to get it done? I can remove the fire...

    Replacing a room thermostat?

I have the same set up as the OP and am also wanting to change my dial thermostat to a digital one. Can mrgas (or anybody else out there) explain why to go for a programmable roomstat when all the times are controlled by the existing timer in the airing cupboard?

    Boiler wont fire up

Thanks for replying so quickly. I was worried that the actuator was going to blow up on me as it was warm so you have out my mind at rest on that one. I can't check if there is a live tonight on the connector block as the kids are in bed and i wouldn't know where to look to find the live...

    Boiler wont fire up

Hello all, our boiler has decided not to work. It is an Ideal Classic and it was installed in 1992/93. When you switch on the heating or hot water the boiler clicks but dosn't fire up and the pump starts running I have been up in our airing cupboard and i don't know if the problem...

    Heating Controls

Thanks for your reply. I have been looking around and have seen several, but how would it work? If the stat is in the hall, what is connected to the controller to tell it to do it's stuff? And does it make a difference that the controller is at least 15 years old?

    Loft insulation and boarding

Hi Masona, so what in your opinion is an adequate thickness of insulation? I am being serious, not provocative, because if 100mm is adequate then i can do my whole loft for £33.98 and then if 200mm is more than adequate then........ well you do the maths

    Sentinel X400 Sludge REmover

And who are you to take a pop at me like that? You have no idea of my circumstances and i'll not give you the sob story on here. I started this thread looking for advice. If one of you had definately said put the inhibitor in right now then i would have. If you can't be constructive then...
