    Titan and Mac Allister

Yeah I'm aware they are 'own brand', just wasn't sure if there was any tangible difference with the Mac Allister versions. Generally found Titan to be better than Aldi equivalents, although they're all obviously inferior to the big brands.

    Titan and Mac Allister

As far as I can tell, Screwfix seem to be phasing out their 'Titan' brand and replacing with 'Mac Allister', although the tools themselves seem almost identical. Anybody know why, and if the replacements are actually any good? Had a few good cheap and cheerful Titan products over the years for...

    painting onto varnished Woodwork

You could potentially just roll BIN onto the spindles too using a 2" microfibre. Foam won't work very well with most primers, they get drenched and heavy. Are the spindles shaped? You may struggle to get into the detail with a roller.

    Home Bar in Garage

If you are dotting & dabbing the plasterboard, you can probably just use longer screws and plugs to attach the shelves to the underlying brickwork. I think you'd be better off insulating it properly as per the linked thread though. If you decide to run studwork, put your shelf brackets over the...

    painting onto varnished Woodwork

Yeah should be fine. I tend to follow the roller along with a gentle brush as I don't like rolled finish on woodwork, but that's just personal preference. If you want to do this, it must be done immediately because as I mentioned, the BIN starts to dry very fast. Another tip, if you notice any...

Is it always necessary to tank up shower wall pre-tiling?

In a big cubicle like that with low pressure I'd likely use cement boards and not bother with the tanking. The important thing is that you design so that your tiles won't fail and so that the underlying wall isn't going to get drenched and be unable to dry out. From what you've said, this is...

Is it always necessary to tank up shower wall pre-tiling?

Water can get past grout, especially with a power shower, so I don't agree with the quoted comment. Cement boards are water-resistant rather than waterproof, what is the existing wall made out of? Are you going to dot and dab the cement boards on?

    Repair chipped shower tray

The kit linked above will give you something decent. The paint will likely wear off over time. If you can get some gelcoat filler which is already the correct shade of white, it will probably last a bit longer. Have a look at this

    painting onto varnished Woodwork

I tend to use synthetic for everything these days, normally Wooster. Is it the new paint scraping off or is residual varnish coming with it? How soon is soon? How did you clean the sanding dust off? Oil based paints can take months to fully cure. I'd be inclined to start with a coat of Zinsser...

    Fix drywall painting disaster

Are those raised patches in the first pic 'spongy' at all, or does it all feel quite solid? Difficult situation. I had many, many patches in my place similar to pic 2 when I moved in. Some walls I managed to salvage with a rather labour-intensive sanding exercise, the worse ones I had to...

Do I need to run an earth?

It looks like you'd be better off replacing that rose with a proper junction box, and then running a short piece of 3-core to the new light fitting.

Surface mounted metal sockets and boxes

Most backboxes would have 2 cables coming in, unless the socket was a leaf on a radial or it was a spur off a ring.

How do you wire LED Bathroom Mirror with Motion Sensor & Demister

In my bathroom a feed was taken off the main bathroom light. If you have a loft it can be fairly straightforward to run the cable across to the wall. Don't wish to hijack this, but am I right that the RCD bathroom requirement was introduced in the 17th, and that similar cabling done prior to...

Surface mounted metal sockets and boxes

Presumably you cannot absolutely guarantee a full earth connection in the situation where you are unscrewing the face plate - a live wire could be touching the back box and suddenly you've lost your earth. Better safe than sorry! It can be quite difficult to get 3 earths into 1 terminal, but I...
