Is there a way of checking to see if the valve is working while it is on the boiler? As I have a similar problem?

Just wondering if a faulty pump could cause this problem. It's just that I had another pump fitted (not new) when this started and it got slightly better. I have noticed that the pump that is on it now is really hot to touch .is this normal?
