Suggestion for joints on garden furniture

I am beginning to get some confidence (thanks to you). Trouble now is cutting one part of a lap joint, I have to saw "sideways" and I cannot think of a way to get a long piece of timber on my bench vertically so that I can cut the "normal "way. Any ideas please? Best Alan

Suggestion for joints on garden furniture

Yes John, lap joints sound good, thank you, what do you think about dowels going into both pieces or bolts and "covering" dowels? Enjoy the day.

Suggestion for joints on garden furniture

Please don't be too disparaging to me as I intend to use butt joints for my softwood garden furniture. I fixed some bannisters last week using home made 18mm (big) dowels with grooves, going in deep and the work is very solid. However, folk on You tube are using sunken bolts, covered with short...

Coverage, These products seem so pricy. Garden furniture

You people have been very helpful this week regarding making my softwood garden furniture. I am so confused with the many different products, I rang Sadolin. They recommended starting with their wood preserver, than knotting, then Beautiflex Colours, all seems fine by me, BUT, It seems so...

Which comes first knotting or SANDING etc?

Thanks so much, Now I know the procedure. That was getting at me a bit. What about the cost, it all seems hugely expensive, I will look it up if the websites tell you the coverage but what is your experience with that? In other words, is it not as bad as it sounds? So grateful for your help. Alan

Which comes first knotting or SANDING etc?

Thanks John and wgt. Your comment John about end grain is noted. Wgt , you mentioned one coat first. I was about to ask as my chairs will have slats, close together, will there be a problem if I sand, knot and paint (say with Sikkens, despite the cost) the "innards" of the slats, before I...

Which comes first knotting or SANDING etc?

Good morning everybody. I am about to make garden furniture from softwood. Do I sand first or do I do the knotting first please? What about the parts that will be joined to others? Will the join protect the ends from the elements, or do you think I should put something on, say creosote? I am...

Which Finish for a Pine( softwood) Garden Table?

Hello All, I am enjoying making a garden table out of pine softwood. Stud partition for the table top and thicker pine for the legs, not started the legs yet. I thought at first paint. Knotting, primer, undercoat, gloss. Not sure now so I have decided to ask you what you have used for external...

Wallpering a disaster. What am I doing wrong?

I am exhausted. As you said the hard work is worth it. Anyone else seeing this thread should know that. I am now "misting" half water, half emulsion. Can I put lining paper over that to paint and do you think I could use paste-the-wall paste, or should I get the ordinary one? Alan
