Just soldered the 2 fittings and all is well - I wiped the pipes inside and outside dry clean, then cleaned them with wire wool and fluxed them up as normal - al is well. thanks all for helping :)

well I had a boiler swapped a year or so ago and the joints were all soldered and they were still "wet" pipes - just wondered what the technique was?

could be lots of things. ignition/rectifcation lead/probe problem ....? needs to be checked

Thanks for your reply How do I solder it then? Basically it's a radiator flow pipe - the system has been drained down, but there's still a bit of water in the pipework - the pipe is still wettish - I've tried drying it but some water just returns. Will heating it help? ... any tips?

ok thanks, i'll sleeve the gap between pipe and wall, and is silicone sealant ok to seal gap between pipe and sleevel at each end? I'll get a 3/4" bit then, any good / decent brand ones? What sort of cost should I be looking at?

I want to install an outside bib tap so I can water my garden. I have seen a tap kit for sale, but also was thinking of buying the parts separately. I know I need a double check valve fitted on the pipe to the tap to stop backflow. My query is - I have a power drill (240V DeWalt one)...

It's 568mm across it's length. Will I need to buy new rad valves too? The radiator valves are the older type, big round ones, not the newer type with nut and olive separate. These extensions do you mean extendable tails??

Oh, so the radiator will leak even if I seal it up with sealer? If I buy another radiator of the same size, will it be difficult to hang/fit? Will the wall brackets be ok to re-use?

Hi It is leaking from the seam at the bottom - not the pipe or valve or nut. Good idea I could turn it off at the valves, then after the radiator's empty that'll stop it. I might try the putty from Sentinel, it's £5 or so to buy a tube of it. Just wondered if anyon'e tried it?
