    Video chewing tapes

Hi all, what's normally the cause of videos chewing tapes? I've just powered-on our 2 yr old samsung & pushed eject to get the tape out. When it came out , the tape was still wrapped around some inner parts of the recorder. It's happened twice over last year, and although that's not a...

    cooker circuit

ixdes said I take it people are meaning 'diversity' when they say this? If so, I think it's foolish to apply it to cookers/cooker rings, saying it's not likely that they're all going to be on at the same time. In fact, in large families they probably would all be on at once. Diversity...

    IS this Ok?

Dazalock said What I mean is you don't protect an 11A circuit with a 40A fuse, you use the closest above it don't you. Even though disconnection times are 0.4 s the full 40 A has to flow through the cooker for the mcb to trip, which could well destroy the cooker. Julian

    Homark oven circuit fuse

Hi all, I've read with interest some recent posts about eleccy ovens, but I just have a quickie. My cooker was put on the 4 or 6mm² cooker radial with a 40 A MCB. As it's power rating is 2550 max.(fully absorbed, whatever that means), & so drawing only 11/12A, can I just put a 16A MCB on...

    IS this Ok?

Felix is saying use 6sq mm from the JB to the fcu, not 6 sq mm to the oven. [I am watching this post with interest as I've just found our (same as yours) cooker rated at 2550W connected to the cooker radial on a 40A mcb........ oh dear] <edit - I also think heat resistant flex should be...

Hotpoint quarius 1200 de luxe 9549 - identify part please

Hi all, sister's got the above machine & said it won't spin with clothes in, but will spin without a load in. I thought it was the motor brushes, so replaced them. Now her fella's told me differently..... When you start a wash & the drum fills, that's when it should slowly turn. You hear...

    Bigger service fuse

Thanks for (some of) the replies, I understand 11a, but I merely wondered if anyone from Liverpool had recently had this done and if they were charged for it, not what the price was. Julian

    Bigger service fuse

Hi all, will my REC (I'm in Liverpool) charge to fit a bigger service fuse, say 100A? Currently we have a 60A in the bubble, but the cu is 100A. We have a 9.5 Kw shower drawing c. 41A without anything else on. In addition, we have 2 x lighting circuits, 2 x rings , a cooker radial & an...

    Advice on bathroom light please

Thanks for swift replies, The ceiling height is 231cm, but the batten +bulb just encroaches into zone 2, and the batten is also only c. 1metre away from the shower and the shower head isn't fixed in place. Also, I've not seen units anywhere which are rated at 100w and zone 2 or 1, or IPx4 or...

    Advice on bathroom light please

Hi all, I'm struggling to suggest to a mate what type of light(s) to have in his bathroom, as what's there at the moment is ridiculous and unsafe as you'll see from the photo. He could reach the lampholder (if desired!) whilst standing having a shower. Another problem is that the bathroom...

Can cable be left in place?

Hi all, been in our house c. 3yrs. Had to remove a loft board to check condition of insulation & saw that the lighting wire to 3 loft lights has been laid in a 1cm deep groove on the top of the joists. Now I,m not going to be nailing anything into the loft boards from the loft, so can the...

    Qualified to test?

Hi all, are all sparks able to test domestic installations or do they have to get their 2391 ? I'm concerned about the sockets in my house & want to get their earth fault loop impedances checked out, but I don't just want any spark with a megga. Any ideas of costs involved for...

    Block connectors been used

ok thanks, the light has wiring with a block on the end. I was just unsure if the block in the ceiling (in place of a ceiling rose) with a piece of 1mm coming out of it for the light, was ok/legal or not Julian
