Hi all,
been in our house c. 3yrs. Had to remove a loft board to check condition of insulation & saw that the lighting wire to 3 loft lights has been laid in a 1cm deep groove on the top of the joists.

Now I,m not going to be nailing anything into the loft boards from the loft, so can the circuit be just disconnected or will the loft floor all have to come up to remove the bad wiring? ie can the bad wiring be left in place if it's never going to be used?

Thanks,
Julian

mark it up so you know where it is, leave a note by the meter for anyone as a reminder if you are paranoid, and don't worry about it until you are working in that area and have the floor up anyway, when you should take the opportunity to re-do it properly.
An out of route cable is only dangerous when spiked, and if you have written "danger cable here" or similar on the floor in big warning letters then it s not going to happen by accident !
