Please advise me on a good quality toolset.

Absolutely right! I have two cordless drills, three tape measures, two stanley knives, two sets of screwdrivers etc.. I have found that over the years I'll find a job to do, find out how to do it and buy the correct tools to do the job. Eventually, you get everything that you need.

    Floor Tiling - Quickie!

Whilst you're at B&Q there is another type of trim designed for joining different level floors. You don't screw it down so no nasty little screws to snag your bare feet on! There's basically a base plate that you srew to the floor and a solid trim that snaps into the plate. Good luck! :)

    flex outlet question

Thanks for that RF :D I don't really want to harp on about this all night but I'm a small one man business, working on recommendations, trying to abide by regulations and work in a safe manner. I appreciate it very much when time-served qualified sparks can offer invaluable advice. I do have...

    flex outlet question

No seriously, I would love to study and become fully qualified as I would also love to become CORGI registered but I have to go to work to earn a living. I have total respect for fully qualified electricians but I just wish that they would cut the rest of us some slack sometimes :(

    flex outlet question

I guess the forum can be a wealth of information. It occurs to me though that a lot of fully qualified sparks 'dis' the domestic installers qualification. Maybe they believe that general builders/ kitchen fitters/bathroom fitters /multi-traders etc. are just taking their work away and are not...

Cheers crafty. Are the Fridge and extractor OK to leave on the ring (just the 'below worktop appliances' needing FCUs)?

    flex outlet question

good point! So far I have provided a separate ring circuit for the appliances in the kitchen. The DW and WM are off FCUs and the combi micro is on a separate radial. The fridge, hob and oven are simply plugged into the ring. I haven't thought about fusing yet!

    flex outlet question

Hi all I've got a situation where I need power behind a built in oven, both for the oven and the ignition for the gas hob. I'm thinking of converting the existing single switched outlet to a flex outlet (as there will be no room for two plugs). However as I need two outlets should I provide...

Can you get tile cutter disks for angle grinders?!

I disagree! :o I bought it to do a job with 600mm X 600mm X 10mm fully vitrified porcelain tiles in a wet room where the floor was laid diagonally. OK admittedly, this situation is a bit rare. The first thing I did was to change the blade to a continuous edge so as to stop chipping...

quickest way to level for floor tiles

Did the job today. I actually couldn't wait to get the Mira product mail order so used Cementone Cemolatex self-levelling compound (from Travis Perkins). It worked a treat. I built it up in layers as each layer (3-4mm) was touch dry in about 20 mins. The bit of floor that had dropped took most...

    Plumbing Toolbox Help.

I think that you get the picture regarding quality and amount of tools. You'll find that as you go along, you'll get a job and have to source the specific job to do it. I carry two cordless drills on the van, one's a £250 Makita for most work and the other's a £40 B&Q job for when I can't be...

    mitre saw help

I bought a MAC 10" sliding compound saw from B&Q in January having borrowed a Makita a few days earlier and I'm extremely happy with it. If you need to do compound cuts, it tilts both ways. It's also got a handy little laser guide. For about £145, I think it was a bargain!
