    Invensys UP2 / Drayton LP722 help

I've been given a used Invensys UP2 programmer which I believe to be a remodelled Drayton Lifestyle LP722. On the rear there's 3 selections which are chosen by jumpers P & G - I know this is pumped systems and gravity systems 1 & 7 - Assume 24hr or 7 day mode? L & I - This one has me...

Seal for concrete floor to stop dusting?

Lol, stone cold at the minute but I'm just going off what a couple of people told me when I mentioned floor paint!

Seal for concrete floor to stop dusting?

How hard wearing is it? Will it take hot tyres from a car or be forever chipping and coming up? Ideally I'd have asphalt down but there's a manhole cover and block paving externally that meets the current level of concrete to I wouldn't want to raise the level any.

Seal for concrete floor to stop dusting?

I had a new garage built around 5 years ago with the flooring being concrete. I'm looking to seal it to stop the constant dusting as I'm going to be using a treadmill in there soon and am worried about potential dust pickup. Can anybody recommend a product to successfully seal and stop the...

    earthing conductor csa

If you prove by calculation that a 6mm2 earthing conductor is sufficient then there's no need at all to to replace it with a larger conductor. If you're unsure about using the adiabatic equation correctly then install a larger conductor!

Price increases on conduit etc imported from China?

Anti-Dumping Duty (ADD) is an import duty charged in addition to normal customs duty and is applied across the whole European Community. It is designed to allow the EC to take action against goods that are sold at less than their normal value - that being defined as the price for 'like goods'...

Price increases on conduit etc imported from China?

Has anybody heard anything about this? It was received as an email from our local Electric Center branch: "Within the last 24 hours we have been made aware that on the 14th November the European Commission imposed an anti-dumping surcharge on imports of all threaded tube and malleable iron...

installing cables through joist where 50mm not possible

Obviously a 1mm plate is less penetrative than I thought! Thinking about a length of 20mm conduit with a wall thickness of 1.5mm, I'd never have thought I could hammer a standard nail through it. Maybe 3mm is overkill but at the same time it's also pretty much a guarantee. I've only...

installing cables through joist where 50mm not possible

Not that I've tried but if I took a 1mm thick 'Safeplate' and hammered a nail straight through it then I wouldn't be happy to state that an installation is compliant with BS7671 where they've been used to protect cables at a depth of less than 50mm that don't have additional protection by a 30mA...

installing cables through joist where 50mm not possible

I'm not sure where it came from originally but it's repeated HERE by the ESC in Q1.12 Q1.12 What types of mechanical protection provide sufficient protection against penetration by nails, screws and the like? As an example, steel of 3 mm minimum thickness is generally considered to...

    Quality volt stick

And in many cases you won't use a volt stick either as they generally wont read though plaster and the like.

    Quality volt stick

I have both a Fluke 1AC and a 2AC. Both are about the best volt sticks I've used and pretty reliable though take the advice above if you're considering one for isolation of supplies.

    Why stipulate a 'non-switched' outlet

A water softener is designed to run constantly so the only reason to isolate would be for maintenance. Nobody should rely on a single or double pole switch of a socket outlet, always remove the plug. Due to that, I favour the reasoning given by sparkwright.

    emergency stops

The brakes we use are DC injection, not phase reversal. For example, a safety brake would be fitted to a radial arm drill. On activation of the emergency device, the AC supply would be removed and DC would be injected across one winding of the motor. On this occasion the result would be an...

    emergency stops

We fit two types of DC brakes - production and safety. Production brakes will stop a motor under control, say 5-8s and are called upon with every stopping action - stop buttons, e/stop buttons etc. Great for woodworking machines though we've also fitted them to buffers which can sometimes...

    Working away

Yeah, Workington wasn't too impressive. It went downhill fast when we checked in the room. Had a shower, whilst in I noticed insulation tape on the top surface of the electric shower. Further investigation revealed it was a substitute to fixing screws and it actually held the front cover on...
