Today i opened up the unswitched FCU for my cooker extractor and found a lenght of 1mm(twin&earth),running to a junction box feeding a 5ft fluoresent tube!!!!. The FCU in question is a spur from the kitchen ring. Is this kind of wiring not dangerous???? Hope what i ask makes sense.

Cheers for the reply, today i lifted a few boards to check the junction boxes of the light circuit for loose connections in any and found a loose N wire to one of my spot lights in the kitchen......tightened it up and the flicker has now stopped.......strange but true hmmmmm :D Big thanks !!!
