    Big, stubborn Tree Stump

Be careful, I severely damaged my back a few years ago trying to life a similar sized trunk & rootball out of my garden. The rootball weighed a tonne and I actually had to lif it out with a mini digger (which struggled). But I later tried to move it slightly by hand, which is when I turned...

    Cutting bock paving kerbs?

Whats the best way of cutting these kerb edging blocks please? I need make some slim cuts to them (as per the marker pen), so that they can be arranged to form a circle. Im worried my angle grinder disc will want to slip out whilst cutting, seeing as its such a slim cut. Is there a good tool...

Large patio on heavy clay, suggestions pl

Im in a similar situation with the garden path I'm about to construct. Im on solid clay, Ive dug test holes 3ft deep and theres no sign of the clay ending!! I'm wondering if the 'hardcore/crusher run' sub-base will sink into the clay sub-grade over time? Would a geo-textile fabric help...

    Drilling through porcelain tiles?

What type of power drill is best for drilling through porcelain tiles? Or is it the drill bit thats important? Should I try with my cordless 18v 3.0amp Makita drill with perhaps some Tungsten Carbide masonary drill bits? Or should I be using something else?

    New Lawn - ground prep

Dont use the wacker on the soil as it will compress it too much. You need to compress it enough to remove any pockets of air, otherwise it will sink in these areas later on. But dont compress it too much or it may cause drainage issues. Also consider mixing lots of sharp sand with the soil to...

    Removing woodchip wallpaper?

Thanks. I fear that boarding the rooms would spoil the old original skirting boards, picture rails and coving which I really want to keep. Would I be right in assuming most decorators wouldn't want to take on the job of stripping all the woodchip and would rather just do the painting job...

    Removing woodchip wallpaper?

Ive got this stuff on nearly every wall & ceiling in my 1930's 3 bedroom house, and I want rid of it. My plasterer has suggested leaving it on and just boarding/plastering over it, which seems a good idea. Would certainly save on elbow grease trying to scrape it all off. But boarding all the...

Fixing cant rails to fence posts

When I did mine I used the top option in your picture. But I made a cut out in the fence post to receive the rails, so the rails were kind of recessed into the post. I did this as I thought it would add strength, but bear in mind Im no expert. In fact I have no knowledge on the subject. It...

Airflow Icon Bathroom Extractor - Any good?

Good point. I can get the transformer fitted in the loft above. If both their 12v & 230v models are Zone 1 safe, would one give any advantage over the other?
