    Architrave and Skirting issues

Thanks for your reply. I am going to strip them all back, nice fun job. If I intend to paint it is it ok to just leave the plaster? I do remember reading that somewhere, possibly on here. It was more about the style we wanted but I don't think it will be possible with the mismatch wood and...

    Architrave and Skirting issues

Hi I have been going through my house stripping/sanding door frames back to wood. The house was built around 1900 and some of the original frames are still there. However, some of the architrave is new and was added by a builder prior to us buying the house. I had wanted the frames to be...

    Cork flooring

Hello I am in the process of replacing the floor in my bathroom. I have removed the old floor and laid plywood. This is as far as I am at the moment. We have decided on cork floor, does anyone have advice about laying this? I was intending to seal the floor with a mix of water and PVA then...

    Toilet continually running

Yeah I think that is where it is. When I push that down it does stop, its like it goes down halfway atuomatically but whatever mechanism makes it go all the way has broken/come apart. I have taken it out but can't see anything and not sure how to get 'inside'.

    Toilet continually running

Hi My in-laws are having a problem with their toilet continually running through into the bowl. A visiting friends child pulled too hard on the flush which seemed to cause the problem. I have included some photos of the mechanism incase someone can identify it and where I may get a...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

well I have found the leak. It was the joints between the cistern and toilet. We have been taking these off and used PTFE and some silicone to make it tight. I managed to get it to the point where there is only a really slow leak, with the occasional drip. That may do for now. I think I can't...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

Well, I have tackled the floor and that went ok. Removing the toilet was ok and came off all in one. I left the sink in place as i managed to get the tile out from underneath and it stayed 'floating' overnight. Laid the ply this morning and then replacing the toilet. I got it all on ok, then...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

As an aside, I am thinking of replacing the mixer tap on the bath before I put it back in. Are the holes a standard size, i.e. any double mixer tap will do? I have been lookiing at this one on screwfix...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

Brilliant, thats really helpful. Hopefully all the steps will go smoothly! Its ok, the tiles were fine, very nice and underfloor heating etc when we moved in. Four years later due to half of the tiles laid 'dot and dab' they began to crack and break! The other side remained fine. I have...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

That's great. Yeah i'm pretty sure the toilet is not screwed to the floor. Any advice when removing the waste pipe and water pipe? things to watch for? With the sink, is there any key points to be looking for screws etc as I can't see any. Or could the sink just be siliconed to the wall? The...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

I hope you can see that. I cut away the boxing in bit just now and it looks ok, the toilet moved as well so i guess its not secured to the floor with anything. there was a line of silicone between cistern and toilet, would this be all that attaches them? Behind I can see the waste pipe and the...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

Yeah I think I have located the screws for the cistern. With the pan, if it is siliconed to the floor what is the best way to get this off? If there were screws in the holes on the floor would they be obviously evident, as there are none I can see but may be some right 'inside'? How will...

Temporarily remove toilet and sink pedestal

I think where you mean is where it is 'boxed in'. I have done a picture to show where this is, there is also a triangle at the top across the back. Under this is a wood frame which the cistern is attached too. so im guessing it will need to come off that. There are two screws inside the cistern...
