45 degrees light test - is it ground floor or first floor

Hi All. When considering a 45 degrees light test to see the impact of an extension on an adjoining property, is this usually the ground floor or the first floor. In this case we have been asked to provide one but unsure if its from ground floor or first floor. The house in question is a semi...

Can a floor board be used in place of ply or is it an overkill here ?

I noticed that my builder has decided to use floorboards for a pitch roof, Isn't this supposed to be something like OSB3 /Plywood+ render board screwed ontop of it or am i missing something here ? I am referring to the pitch roof above the proposed door. It looks like floorboards to me.

Is this DPC level correct for rendering ?

Thought one could have a membrane wrapped all around the edges for precisely that reason, and then the DPM as well. The proposed floor is concrete, so i would have thought wrap a 450mm DPC all around the edges + DPM, 100mm celotex insulation and then concrete ontop of that.

Is this DPC level correct for rendering ?

Hi All. Looking at the picture below, I am concerned that that the builder has placed the angle beads at the wrong level. To provide some context the higher level where the class 2 engineer bricks stops is the actual DPC level inside the house, however I have decided to have the porch slightly...

Tundish leaking water, underfloor heating leaking and unexpected gas use

The boiler is not lit during the period when the figures go up, I did a test today by turning off the boiler for 6 hours and the figures stood still. Usually what happens is that after midnight the figures go up by 30p or so which represents the standing charge.

Tundish leaking water, underfloor heating leaking and unexpected gas use

Hi All. We have just moved in to our home just over 6 months ago, and still getting head around how an unvented heating system works and coupled with the underfloor heating. Our setup is such that we have radiators upstairs and UFH downstairs. Our setup consists of a Worcester 30 system boiler...

Turndish leaking water and boiler dropping pressure

I have turned off the blue valve now. The braided hose, please kindly explain further (which end to take off, the blue end or the black end). which guage you are talking about, is it the one close to the white stop cap ? IF I take it off, will this cause water to be everywhere ? and how long...

Turndish leaking water and boiler dropping pressure

One other observation, I am trying to understand why we use 10kw of gas a day. We have got underfloor heating and an unvented cylinder for hot water and radiators upstairs. On the worcester boiler, I see the radiator icon on a lot, I know from experience with combi's that once the flame sign is...

Turndish leaking water and boiler dropping pressure

Thanks for the comment. I will not touch anything again. What happened is that a heating engineer friend of mine reckons that the issue is from the boiler pressure valve. He did say that since the boiler is less than a year old, I should get in touch with worcester. I was thinking, is he saying...

Turndish leaking water and boiler dropping pressure

Hi All. I hope everyone is well and keeping safe, I have come onto the forum for some help and explanation before I take my next steps. I have an unvented cylinder setup and I really do not understand it, I have always been used to a combi setup and this is much more complicated. The...

Heating a 20sqm outbuilding in the winter - what do i do ?

Morning All. Morning All. Thermometer should be arriving this week hopefully, what I did over the weekend was to look at the fabric of the building to see where the heat is being lost. I looked into the loft, I noticed that the cavity insulation was not continuous up till the tip of the...

Heating a 20sqm outbuilding in the winter - what do i do ?

just one observation, when I sit under the desk, my feet is freezing as I try not to wear shoes inside to keep the place clean, so i am suspecting the 1mm spacing between skirting and the vinyl laid on the floor. I am guessing I can use a tub of flexible clear silicone underneath and this should...

Heating a 20sqm outbuilding in the winter - what do i do ?

I have also noticed that underneath the skirting is like a 1mm gap, should I be filling this up because I dont think the insulation starts that low. In terms of filling it up, should this be silicone or caulk ? I say this because in another part of the main house, we noticed draught coming in...

Heating a 20sqm outbuilding in the winter - what do i do ?

All the windows were newly installed a few months ago, there is a door leading to a toilet (extremely cold toilet and the tiled floor makes it worse so I keep this door shut), the seals by the french door appear to be fine being a big open room doesnt help as it means the heating is not...

Heating a 20sqm outbuilding in the winter - what do i do ?

The construction for mine is 100mm cavity, 100mm celotex on the floor and yet its like this. TBH when I turn on the heating to level 3 for a few hrs, then level 1 after. Electricity cost for that day is usually £6 more than normal average. Its not sustainable, it will now encourage me to work...

Heating a 20sqm outbuilding in the winter - what do i do ?

I am confused no as to what to do. The govt green scheme is another option but i have mates in the trade who can install whatever option I go for, so this would not be an issue.
