    loft / power supply

GaryMo... thankyou very much. Simple and straightforward answer. Ban-All-Sheds ... Just asked the question so that if I do indeed have to use a separate ring from the CU, I can get on with chasing out / running the wire. Leaving it unconnected to the CU and spooled in the loft, ready for a...

    loft / power supply

Power supply needed in my loft...... going to be powering 2 bedrooms (xbox, stereos, hairdryer, tv, etc) Do I run a new ring from the consumer unit? Or just break into / extend the first floor ring?? Loft conversion not started yet, so either way is possible to me. Just wondered which...

    crazed paint

One of my bedroom walls has dark blue paint that in places has crazed? To my uneducated eye, it looks like maybe someone has painted on to a wall with wallpaper paste residue still on it. If it is wallpaper paste, when i paint over this, is it likely to craze again? Should the crazed areas...

    what happens if...

... I dont use primer?? The threshold to my built-in wardobe has paint missing where it looks like the previous home-owner has sanded the threshold to accomodate a dropping door, as opposed to just re-hanging the door. I've now re-hung the door and I'm wondering how to fix the bare patch...

    sandersons paint

I'm about to do a job for my cousin, painting a few rooms. Now, because she works at john lewis, she's insisting on using Sandersons paint (she can get 25% off) Has anyone here used this paint (emulsion) before?? I'm used to Dulux trade, so I'm just a bit worried its gonna be a mare to work...

    wall unit

I need to fit a wall unit weighing 35kg. Some brackets I've got say maximum weight 30kg. Now, do they mean 30kg per bracket? (As I'm using 3 brackets 3x30kg =90kg so no probs...) Or is 30kg the absolute max they are able to support??? They are just standard cantilever brackets from b&q

light switches (new way of wiring??)

I've recently finished rewiring my house. Now, as far as the lights / switches are concerned, I wired them the same as I always have. So that in the switch, all you have is the live, earth and neutral. Then in the rose you have the wires in / out + your switch live. Spoke to someone last night...

    gripfill

Have just rewired my new house. Is it ok to use gripfill to hold the conduit in the chasing? I know it will hold the conduit well enough, but i just want to make sure it wont have any adverse reaction to the plaster. thankyou, Jacko

    Buildings notice

Finally about to move into our new house (24/Aug). One of the (many) jobs we have to do is replace the old, rotten, wooden conservatory. Just wondered, as we are only replacing something which has already been built. Do we have to bother putting in a buildings notice form?

    building regs

Cheers John. Your inputs much appreciated. I have no intention of scrimping on the actual work itself. Just wondered how they (building regs) could physically tell that the work wasn't done prior to me buying the house?

    building regs

In the not too distant future, I plan to knock down a kitchen wall to make a kitchen/diner. Now, I know I should really notify the council/building notice. But, if I was to go ahead and do the job without giving notice. How would/could they find out? When the time comes to sell the place...

Foam gun use, some guidance please....

Just close the screw valve and it'll be fine in the morning. The worst that might happen is when you use it in the morning, any foam residue around the tip, may cause the foam to shoot out at right angles/multiple directions! Just gently scrape residue off with a knife and your good to go.
