Minimal hot water from 30 inch element.

I am a bit late getting back but thanks for the reply, Balderdash. Looks like it's the latter. I have replaced the previous 11 inch thermostat with an 18 inch. This did give a bit more hot water but still insufficient so I have turned up the temp to 70 degrees celsius and set the timer for...

Minimal hot water from 30 inch element.

I have recently installed a 30inch element into a 900 x 450 HW cylinder. Though the HW connection is below the bottom of the dome I would have expected this to be quite sufficient for providing enough hot water for showering. This, though, is not the case. The element gets hot and hot water is...

Connecting a washing machine to soilpipe.

Thanks for the advice, muggles. :)

Connecting a washing machine to soilpipe.

I want to instal a washing machine in the bathroom next to a back-to-wall WC. A 40/110 boss adapter will need to be fixed to the top of the horizontal soilpipe to which the WC is connected. Are the solvent weld type adaptors best for this sort of thing or would this be preferable? Also, in view...

    Nothing better to do?

Not one of those items is as distracting as dropping a lighted ciggy, which will happen, however rarely. Depends upon who is doing the concentrating.

    Nothing better to do?

Have you specified that list in order of importance? I have no concerns with any of the items you have mentioned. The process of lighting a cigarette, smoking a cigarette, discading the ash from a cigarette and extinguishing a cigarette will scarcely be a hands-free operation.

    Nothing better to do?

To diverge slightly from the point here, is it not the case that a driver, if smoking, compromises control over their vehicle. Thus it should be illegal for a driver to smoke per se?

Pressure falls to zero on Vokera combi boiler.

Manufacturer: Vokera Model: Linea 28 There has been a problem on our boiler for some months where the pressure drops to zero - the user manual states that this should normally be between 1 and 1.5 bar when cold. I drew this to the attention of the engineer prior to its annual service in...

    jammed pulley on timing belt

A friend had exactly the same thing happen on his 'S' reg Fiesta. I do not know as to whether this was a 16 valve engine (perhaps they are all 16v these days?), only that it was a 1.4. The problem was that the damage extended to the cylinder linings so he had to have an entire replacement...

    Lava soft

Gary, I think the problems with your wireless broadband and Lavasoft are unrelated. I also failed to retrieve the latest updates for my Ad-Aware (Personal SE). Kept getting Error retrieving when I hit the CONNECT button. This problem continued for a couple of weeks, so I decided to uninstal and...

Is MDF best material for bottom part of bath panel?

Thanks very much for that, Jason. I couldn't find this item or anything like it in B&Q so I am going to order it from Screwfix. I will be a adding a plyboard base to the lower part of the existing panel and then attaching the upvc panel to cover this. Can it be glued or does it only require to...

Is MDF best material for bottom part of bath panel?

Nige F: Might check this out but I have heard that there are some health risks with using MDF especially when cutting or drilling holes in the material. Any views? Jasonb: Call me an imbecile but I have tried googling on UPVC facia board and not much is returned with reference to baths. Even...

Is MDF best material for bottom part of bath panel?

A long-standing leak from a bath (now resolved) has resulted in damage to the lower part of the bath panel. The panel itself is of a wood based construction, but the lower part is MDF and it is this piece that has absorbed the water like a sponge and will need to be replaced. Is it best to...

Flushpipe connector will not seal into BTW WC.

It's not a pan connector that I am having trouble with, it's the flush pipe connector that's causing the grief. You know, the connector for what's coming in, not what's going out!

Flushpipe connector will not seal into BTW WC.

At the first attempt I put the standard connector in probably with too much silicone (in the light of your remarks). Returning to test it the following day it certainly did not look like it had set sufficiently securely to hold water and er…it didn’t. I then tried fitting a black rubber version...

Flushpipe connector will not seal into BTW WC.

I have been having some real problems trying to get a standard plastic connector (at the end of the flush pipe) to fit securely into the aperture at the rear of a back-to-wall WC. After using a small amount of silicone on the connector and it failing to remain watertight I tried instead using a...

    Sink waste snaffled! Help!

That's the point, though, it is not standard and the trap is not a part of what was removed, the trap is still in place. I will certainly do this. Cheers. As I said, it is not standard Very tempting...might consider. Cheers, Ratty.

    Sink waste snaffled! Help!

Anybody have any ideas to how I can solve this problem? On Sunday a friend of mine said she had a leak under her plastic kitchen sink seemingly from the waste fitting. Upon inspecting the waste I found that the plastic screw that holds the grate to the waste was broken so there was...
