    Floor/tile/stud wall issue

I wouldn't bother ripping it up yet, see if it happens again first. You might get two years out of it before the wife wants to change it anyway!

    Floor/tile/stud wall issue

Is the 18mm the only boards down or do you have another 18mm t&g below that? Where have the tiles popped, in the centre of the room? When i've tiled an upstairs floor before, I lay plywood boards over the existing flooring then the tiles on that. 1. It helps sturdy the floor and restricts...

    Damp proof membrane

It sounds like the membrane is being used as a cavity tray. I think a picture would help. That's not a bad thing!

    Damp proof membrane

What are you building? The membrane is a "damp proof membrane (DPM)". It sounds odd to me to build on top of the membrane unless it's a gas/radon barrier. Normally you would build the blocks off the slab and lap the membrane into the DPC course which would normally be mortared below and above...

Best board to use for sub floor?

I suppose either would do although you'll need to make the joints over joists and provide noggins where any square edges meet. You could use a P5 flooring grade tongue and groove chipboard (not everyone's favourite! o_O) which shouldn't require noggins under the joins as the T&G will help with...

    Damp/mould disaster.

Sounds like it's bad! Is authority housing not available in your area? Are you not considered a higher priority with your medical conditions?

    Damp/mould disaster.

Employ anyone? Do you mean like a builder? This shouldn't be up to you to do, you are a tenant, so if the building is in disrepair, it's the owner/landlord that is responsible for the building's maintenance. I realise you're going through a change of owner, so not sure what happens with your...

    Blockwork for windows and lintel

Cheers for your reply. That's a good point, I didn't think of that! I think it'll be 150mm although not got them spec'd yet. I have a cutting saw, so could do this. They are lightweight (look at them and they snap!) blocks, do you reckon cutting them into an L would weaken them anymore?

    Blockwork for windows and lintel

Hi I am doing the block work on my extension and I'm wondering the best way to continue around the ground floor windows. I can run a full course of 75mm blocks on top of my wall now which leaves me at the correct height for the window and then the coursing is also correct for the lintel, or I...

    cement per blocks ?

Holy moly! I reckon 3 tonne bags would do it, you'll have enough left to create a beach resort!

    cement per blocks ?

Wow really! What do you generally build? I'm using a 5:1 mix for face brickwork now, and 6:1 on my lightweight blocks. I used a 3:1 for below ground on the engineering bricks.

    cement per blocks ?

Depending on how fast you reckon these blocks will be laid i'd be tempted to under purchase. You can always buy more, no wastage and they won't go off. 15-18 more realistic if you're doing a 1:6 mix. What mix are you doing? What blocks are you using? Your block manufacturer normally...

    Additional planning permission question

Yes, I’d say so, I’ve submitted it as a new planning application not an amendment or material change and i've labelled the description as "First floor extension" I always assumed it would've been a new planning application anyway, hence the original questions.

    cement per blocks ?

No, like tomfe said, you're interchanging mortar and cement; 1.5 ton of cement is way too much. Based on 3000 blocks you'll probably need about 15 - 20 bags but it will depend on the mix as tomfe said.

    cement per blocks ?

Not a pro brick/block layer but when I worked mine out it was something like this. 1KG of mortar per block 1000 blocks = 1000KG of mortar Divide the KG of mortar between parts, so if you're doing a 1:6 mix of 1 cement to 6 sand you would divide by 7. 1000KG / 7 = 142.86KG That means for 1...

    Additional planning permission question

It’s not within 12 months, about 20 months ago. I have been reading a little about the minor amendments, although that suggests that if the scale of the change could have an adverse effect on the neighbours, street scene etc, it has to be a re-submit. I’ve submitted a full application now so...

    Additional planning permission question

Hi I am currently building my own extension and planning permission & building regs are all underway (built to DPC currently). The extension is a two storey side extension with a single storey extension on the side of that. See pic. I am now thinking i should of put in for a two storey on all...
