Damp patch on ceiling of newly built extension

Hi There, I had an extension built late last year and shortly afterwards I noticed a damp patch, approx. the diameter of a coffee cup in one area of the ceiling. The patch would come and go and would sometimes be smaller. There is a brown ring mark there as a result. I got the builder back...

Fault with Vaillant ecoTec Plus 831

Update: My boiler was 'finally' fixed yesterday, no thanks to Vaillant mind you!!! I phoned Vaillant yesterday and despite reminding them that we'd been without heating and hot water since Boxing Day the best they could offer was a 'possible' appointment this Saturday, but could not guarantee...

Fault with Vaillant ecoTec Plus 831

Hi again Bunnyman. If you need my full postcode then let me know and I can perhaps email or text it to you? With regards to throwing parts at boiler, if this weren't the case then why would group service advisor tell me that they are ordering 8 parts for it, even though the engineer had...

Fault with Vaillant ecoTec Plus 831

Hi Bunnyman. My postcode is MK16. I may have been mistaken with the sweatshirts. They could have been black jackets that were zipped up so looked more like a sweatshirt than a jacket, so please disregard this bit. I am however concerned that I'm being given the brush off by Vaillant...

Fault with Vaillant ecoTec Plus 831

Hi Bunnyman. I get the impression that for some reason you don't believe me regarding the spanner, which unfortunately is detracting from the fact that my boiler is broken and I was asking for views on here as to what the problem may be. The two engineers that attended both had Group Service...

Fault with Vaillant ecoTec Plus 831

Thanks for your comments. The Spanner is still on the display as I've checked and not one but two Vaillant engineers have left it like that, supposedly because they couldn't find the reason why the boiler won't stay lit. Out of interest would the boiler still stay lit if the spanner symbol...

Fault with Vaillant ecoTec Plus 831

Hi There, Firstly, I hope you had a great Christmas. I had the above boiler fitted in June of this year and it failed on Boxing Day with a F28 Fault Code, which is failure to ignite. I have had a Vaillant engineer visit my property to investigate the cause and he reckoned it was a...

    Mixing sizes of tiles

Ok, thanks Richard. I may well go down this route. It's typical that the manufacturer have changed the size. I can't understand why they've made such a small change from 31.6 to 33.8 cm, apart from the fact that they can charge more money by forcing customers to re-lay their entire floor of course!

    Mixing sizes of tiles

Hi Richard, Many thanks for your reply. I had considered cutting them down but the problem is that the existing ones have slightly bevelled edges and I would therefore need to cut and file each tile in order to try and create the bevel, and this would be very time consuming. It could be an...

    Mixing sizes of tiles

Thanks for your replies. I did manage to obtain a sample of a 33.8cm tile and it matches the shade of the existing ones almost exactly. It is certainly not easy to see a difference anyway. However, I appreciate your comment regarding slightly different shades. ree, I was possibly thinking of...

    Mixing sizes of tiles

This is the existing floor tile layout. Any suggestions on how to mix larger tiles with these, and make it look like a deliberate design choice, would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rob.

    Mixing sizes of tiles

Hi There, I am currently having a kitchen extension built and my existing kitchen floor has 31.6cm square slate effect (Almansa) tiles fitted. I would like to find a source for more of these to tiles the rest of the extended floor area once the extension is finished and floor screeded. The...

    Baxi 105e Combi Boiler fault

Ok, thanks for that. I will check the flow switch. That's more my area of expertise being an Electronics Engineer! :D If this tests ok I will then check the pump. I did check that the pump is running freely but have not yet checked the torque. Incidentally, if the switch doesn't operate...

    Baxi 105e Combi Boiler fault

Hi Mick. The problem is that the HW doesn't work all of the time, it seems to work most of the time. Should I unscrew the AAV half a turn or so? Thanks, Robert.

    Baxi 105e Combi Boiler fault

Hi again. I read in the Baxi Service manual that the AAV on top of the pump is supposed to be left open by undoing the screw slightly. For some time now this screw has been done up tight, until yesterday when I undid it to release the air. I did then close it again as it was done up before...

    Baxi 105e Combi Boiler fault

UPDATE: Ok, so I used the shower this morning for between 5 and 10 minutes and could hear a loud noise from the boiler halfway through this period. The noise lasted for approx. 5 seconds and it sounded like a loud scraping type sound. The HW continued to work during this time, although it still...
