    Central heating

circulates the water. lowest that will work this is controlled by the thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) and lock shield valve in the main. No. So the system is, the pump circulates the water either through the radiators if the TRV is open, and the by-pass valve if all TRV's are closed, and the...

Electrical connection for a gas oven

Be it a socket or a fused connection unit (FCU) easy enough to get a supply for spark igniter, but also with gas there needs to be some extraction of the exhaust, and you may want that to also come from the same supply, and gas rules are quite strict, space around an appliance etc. The solid...

Which Type of Boiler / System?

I had some cold radiators when I moved to this house. The reason was very simple, the heating had not run for long enough. As each room heats up, the TRV in that room closes, and the water is pushed to rooms with the TRV still open. Theory is balancing the radiators with the lock shield valve...

    Shed Termination

Most sockets will take two 6 mm² at least MK say they will, but it was just a suggestion, it in my case saved having a hole in the floor of the shed, for the cable and mice to get in, halfway up the side of the shed, less likely to get any other things using the hole for cable. It could have...

    Shed Termination

Not really, my supply is from a 16 amp RCBO so shed has a 16 amp supply, I could have used a 20 amp RCBO in the same way, I wanted a new RCBO, so the supply could be used to charge my son's car if required, so wanted a bidirectional type A to replace the original type AC RCBO.

    Dimmable under-cabinet lights?

This sign means dimmable with standard dimmer switch, items which require a special dimming system are shown as non-dimmable even when they are. I can't see that sign, so would assume needs the special dimmer switch.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm XC70 renewing the battery?

So sitting on a shelf never did comply. And in theory, a boiler which has a balanced flue should not be able to release CO into the room. I have looked at the approved document Part J see page 39.

A spokesperson said: "Turning the thermostat up higher does not make your home warm up any quicker." Really?

It continues This is how much it really costs to run an oil-filled radiator – and 5 ways to make that price even cheaper Oh really? Come on, they are electric heaters. I have an oil filled radiator for emergencies, should the oil central heating fail. I had this talk with my daughter, she...

Carbon Monoxide Alarm XC70 renewing the battery?

Same model still expensive, the Wales&West Utilities written on it, makes me wonder, as no gas in the house, so why would they have had anything to do with my house? Seems likely last owners annexed it somewhere, then left it behind? Do I need a replacement? The smoke alarm yes, although since...

What to do with presents from our cat.

The frog, they brought in, seemed unharmed, the bat, not sure if it was cats, or if come in, its self, birds are a problem, lucky large patio doors, so they will normally leave without need to catch them, just makes the room cold, mice, voles, etc, often traumatised, and I can just pick them up...

A spokesperson said: "Turning the thermostat up higher does not make your home warm up any quicker." Really?

My point is, the report is clearly wrong, turning the temperature up on the thermostat, does have an effect to some extent. I would say even with a mechanical thermostat, the droop, (difference between on and off temperature) means turning up a couple of degrees above temperature required makes...

A spokesperson said: "Turning the thermostat up higher does not make your home warm up any quicker." Really?

I found turning the thermostat (TRV) to 20°C at 7 am, would not get the room to 20°C until around 10:30 am, but set it to 22°C at 7 am then 20°C at 8 am and the room would be at 20°C at 8 am and stay there, as the anti-hysteresis software built into the TRV head (Energenie) was simply OTT. The...

What to do with presents from our cat.

Found wet and clearly scared, put him is an empty pop corn bucket, gave it a little cheese, and allowed him/she to dry out and warm up, before taking outside and releasing. He ran off into the under growth, seemingly non the worst for the trip in our cat's month, but what should we do in the future?

    Honeywell oldie thermostat

I note this thread about same thermostat. there is normally a diagram inside the thermostat, note wires numbered 1, 4, 3, 2, 5, so linking 1 and 3 should make the boiler run.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm XC70 renewing the battery?

There has been now for 6 months a bleeping in my flat, which at first I thought was the smoke alarm, but after hunting today my daughter found it was a Carbon Monoxide Alarm XC70 since no one lives in the flat, not really a problem, but it would be good to fix it for the odd time someone says...
