    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

Ok, after having the bath panel off, I have found the noise! Where the original (i.e. not what the "plumber" did this time) pipework comes up through the floor (where the bath taps used to be, far end from where they are now) the pipes come up one behind the other rather than next to each...

    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

I can try and answer your questions.... I don't think the guy is a cowboy, just not an expert plumber. What can I say, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Cold water is mains-fed. Hot water from a combi. Bath tap is a mono-mixer, so I can't tell you too much about the orientation of the...

    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

Ah, I see what you mean. So I should place a block either side of the valve and clip there to give support, and perhaps at the other end of the pipe too? It's the cold water pipe that's the copper. The hot comes through plastic - does that need clipping too?

    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

How do you mean? I'll pick some wood and clips up tomorrow. I take it you can get clips from a shed? I agree it doesn't look good, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it in terms of it not working, is there? We did what you are supposed to do and get recommendations from...

    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

Hello, When we had our bathroom fitted the taps went at the other end of the bath from where they used to be. This has resulted in a fair distance of unsupported pipes. I've notied when the washing machine shuts off, or the toilet finishes filling there is a short vibrating noise. I...

Vaillant Turbomax VUW 242E - inconsistent hot water

Hi, we have the same boiler as you. Sometimes it seems the hot water in the bathroom sink is colder than the water in the kitchen sink. I have found that if for the first few minutes you only open the bathroom tap a little bit, the water will get a lot hotter, then open it up all the way. I...

Towel rail and lockshield valves, what to do?!

Okay, so only being half a turn open is fine? Thanks!

Towel rail and lockshield valves, what to do?!

The inlet is only open a half turn, the outlet anything above a half turn, or visa-versa. Infinately quieter, yes I thought it was the bypass rad as it is the only one without a TRV, but you are right, neither valve are fully closed.

Towel rail and lockshield valves, what to do?!

I tried this last night. The quitest I could get it was with one wheel (maybe lockshield wasn't the right word, they are the valves that you can turn by hand) only a half turn open. It didn't matter which, and it didn't matter how far the other was open. So: 1) Is it ok to only have...

Towel rail and lockshield valves, what to do?!

Hello, We have a vaillant turbomax 242 boiler. All of the radiators in our house are fitted with TRVs, apart from in the bathroom. From what I understand this is so there is always a flow through the heating system. We recently had our bathroom radiator replaced with a towel rail that is...

    Checks for failing tiles.

No, but we have just had the bathroom redone. We don't have the heating on in the morning as we are up and out within half an hour (and it's quite noisy), which made me think it was happening when things were getting cold.

    Checks for failing tiles.

It was the "determining if there is a problem" thing I was curious about, but I completely see your point. There are tiles close to a radiator, and it is plasterboard, so I will check those. Thanks. I am sure it's nothing, but it's odd hearing noises in your house if you don't know...

Take appropriate steps to remedy the situation :?

    Checks for failing tiles.

Some mornings, around 5am, we get awoken by a loud cracking nosie coming from the bathroom in our house. I think this is caused by something contracting as it gets cold - the radiator in our bathroom has no TRV so it is possibly one of the hotests rooms in the house, and so I guess there is...

    Thermostatic mixer shower lifetime.

Thanks Softus. The installer left the manual for us, and I was quite impressed to see the various forms of help that Mira offer eg technical helpline. I hope nothing will go wrong for a long time, but it's always nice to have reassurance.

    Thermostatic mixer shower lifetime.

Hello, I've got a Mira Miniduo (part of their compact range with 110mm pipe centres). As a general question, what is the life time of thermostatic showers? Is it easy to get spares, or should the thing break do you have to resort to getting a new shower?

    Are my cracks a problem?

Hi, we live in a 1980s house, and it is the first one we owned. The walls are all thin plasterboard, and the floor are chipboard. In the upstairs rooms we have lots of cracks where the walls join the ceiling. From what I have read, I think this is because of changes in temperature causing...

Glow Worm 30cxi slow to heat radiators

Apparently the upstairs radiators get hotter quicker than the downstairs one, but not by any major amount of time. I will get my dad to sit next to the boiler for half an hour the next time he turns it on and report back!
