    Bonding gutter mortar?

Hello Literally just had my roof felt & battens replaced. When they started removing tiles they realised the tiles were stretched causing the leaks in the beginning. I live in a old terraced property with clay double Roman tiles. To over come the stretched gauging which both neighbours also have...

Odd one - smell of wallpaper paste except..

Believe it or not, we experience the same thing. We live in an old cottage, which in areas has hygroscopic salts leaching through the plaster. On warm humid days we get the same smell along with 2 patches of "Salt Damp". The smell could he wallpaper paste residue re hydrating I suppose. In my...

    Re Purlin-re roof

Thanks. Sounds like a good plan. Just a few questions. What kind of thickness should the angle iron be roughly? Also what sort of length. Should I go a metre or so past the rot? Thanks

    Re Purlin-re roof

Thanks Woody, what would a repair be to this? The rot is about an inch deep and extends about 5/6 inches along the length of purlin and is situated about a metre away from the brick corbel. I was tempted to get a 2 metre length of say 7x2" timber and coach bolt & spur connector them together...

    Another Leaking Roof Question

I had a similar situation to you. 3 rafters were rotten below the ridge board. I just sistered them with new timber of similar size (tight fit against ridge board) using coach bolts.

    Leak around chimney

I tell no lies :) my mate recommended him. He goes around all day with 2/3 others and they do loads of smaller jobs in a day and charge less if you get me. Took them an hour, ridge tiles were loose as **** and chimney is small.

    Leak around chimney

Depends on how big the roof is - I had the flashing completely replaced last week and re bedded all ridge tiles ( 12 crested ridge tiles) and paid the bloke £100 cash... 3 blokes on it took them an hour. Climbing up battens that is lol

Purlin repair - Do I need to do anything?

Thanks for reply, would I get away with not supporting it? I've been up in the loft again today after fitting some new flashing to the chimney. I attacked it with a screw driver again and it only goes to roughly 1.5cm for a 6 inch span of the purlin not all the way across the top of the purlin...

Purlin repair - Do I need to do anything?

Can I sister a length to the purlin, using big bolts & washers ? The rot is about a metre from the end of the purlin so say I used a 2 metre length of new timber the same size? Thanks

    cast iron guttering leaking

It will be a joint job if you get me - as in the cost should be split, as you both need to buy / fashion a connection up that both types of gutter can link to without leaking.
