Order of work in bathroom refit

Cheers bathstyle I was hoping not to have to do too much to walls in prep for tiling. I'll be getting a professional in to do the tiles anyway. If I was to board the walls, then there would be a big 'step back' to the plastered wall where the tiles stop wouldn't there? Tiles are about 30cm...

Cheers tictic. So I would be ok installing the toilet and sink ped on top of ceramic floor tiles? Sound like I need to do the floor after shower and bath but before sink. Floor is floorboards with 6mm hardboard and vinyl tiles. Was thinking that I might have to replace boards with 25mm Exterior...

Hi Sol We decided to get a new boiler, as it was very old anyway. We still had a problem with the pressure rising when the new one was installed - it turned out that the filling loop valve was leaking, so the system was getting overfilled. I don't know if this is what caused all the problems, or...

    touching up matt walls

Hi I painted all the downstairs walls about 3 years ago with Dulux Hessian Matt. I made a right pig's ear of it as well, by going back over patches while wet etc. Now I need to patch up some bits where there are dirty marks that won't wipe off, or holes for pictures I have filled. Is...

new vaillant 831 -pressure gauge in red

The taps are light grey, and are definitely the ones supplied as part of the boiler, which is an Ecotec plus 831. They are both in the closed position. The installer also left the filling loop from the previous system, linking the mains water in and the CH flow inlet, which has a small black...

new vaillant 831 -pressure gauge in red

I don't think he fits Vaillants that often. What's more worrying for me is you saying that there are known faults with ecotec boilers. I thought I was avoiding that sort of problem by choosing a 'more expensive' boiler. :? Is there anything else that could cause pressure to rise?

new vaillant 831 -pressure gauge in red

UPDATE Our installer came back on Wednesday [1 week after installing] and reduced pressure by removing some water from the system. He moaned about Vaillant's 'built-in' filling loop as he did so [he had originally suggested fitting an Alpha]. However I notice that the gauge is in the red again...

new vaillant 831 -pressure gauge in red

I had a new ecotec plus 831 boiler fitted last week. Heating and hot water are working fine, but I noticed the pressure gauge needle was a bit into the red last night. It's been off all day and now it's back on the needle is in the red again. Display is flashing between 60 degrees C and 3.0...

new boiler powered via plug in socket ok?

Finally had my new boiler fitted - vaillant ecotec plus 831 - and very nice it is too :) Installer put a plug on mains lead and plugged it into a double switched socket underneath, same as the old boiler had. Reading the installation instructions, Vaillant say it should be plugged into a...

Worcester Bosch 30Si or Vaillant 831?

What do you reckon is the better of these for a 3 bed 10 rad [5 small ones] EOT house with one bath, 2 sinks and good insulation. Going for more than 24KW as I want the bath to fill quicker!

CH pipes only 15mm from boiler

Thanks for replies. House is 3 bed terrace, 10 rads including 5 small ones. Got cavity wall ins, loft ins = double glazing so not hard house to heat. Still not sorted out as fitters who have quoted all want to install Alpha boilers, and I want a Vaillant or WB. When I ask them to update their...
