    15mm or 22mm gas pipe to combi-boiler?

I have had 3 estimates for replacing my old combi-boiler with either the Vaillant ecotec plus 824 or 831. All of the fitters said that I would need a new 22mm gas feed from the meter, as the 15mm currently installed was not sufficient. Looking through the Vaillant eco-tec range leaflet on...

CH pipes only 15mm from boiler

I'm going to have my combi boiler replaced, but fitters who have looked say current 15mm pipes on CH flow and return are too small. One suggested replacing about 1m up and 1m down [from the boiler] with 22mm to help heat travel away from boiler. Do you think this would make a difference? Does it...

heating only works when I run the [cold] hot water

Cheers DP. So is it safe to run the hot water as a way of getting the rads to come on?

heating only works when I run the [cold] hot water

Well I mentioned on another thread that our Gem combi boiler had packed up. The hot water stopped working but the CH was ok. Then BG engineer came and replaced a divertor valve, which hasn't fixed the problem. So he then diagnosed it as a faulty heat exchanger, which can't be replaced. Then we...

    What size combi boiler?

Really Tony? I've been told by BG that they can't get the heat exchanger anymore. That was after the lad replaced the divertor valve first. It was a £210 fixed price repair and I was told they would refund charge if they didn't fix it. Only now they say it can't be fixed and want to keep the...

    What size combi boiler?

My Gem combi boiler has died and I can't decide whether to ask for Vaillant EcoTEC 824 or 831 replacement. Old boiler gave DHW max 26.4 Kwh. 824 = 23 max Kwh 831 = 31 max Kwh Thing is, the HW flow was ok but not great with old boiler, but I never needed to set the temp dial above half way...

    raven boiler rsf 100e

Exactly the same symptoms as my boiler this weekend  BG diagnoses it as faulty divertor valve or heat exchanger. Replaced divertor valve - no change. Told me heat exchanger was unavailable. Charge me £210. B*stard! I hope you have better luck.

    Olive removing tool

Didn't know you get tools to deal with olives until I saw this thread! I replaced 9 rad valves with TRVs recently, and removing the old olives was the hardest part of the job! I was too scared of damaging the pipes with a hacksaw, so wore them down with a file until I could rip them open and...

    drain sealed system

Thanks for the advice, gas2air. All went well. The drain valve did drain through the valve itself, as well as the hose connector, but an old towel took care of that.. Hardest thing was removing the old olives from the flow pipes. Now my house is equally warm, upstairs and down! :D

    central heating

What's all the talk about upstairs and bungalows? BTW I had a similar problem - cold upstairs, warm downstairs, thermostat downstairs. Fitted TRVs to all the radiators last weekend, set the ones downstairs at "2", the ones upstairs at "4" and hey presto! house is warm throughout. OK so...

Indesit WI 121 - all programs stop dead after wash cycle?

I've just had similar problems with the same model machine, also bought from John Lewis. Mine is 6 months old. Engineer came out and had to order new control board. Didn't turn up 2 weeks later - when I phoned he said part hadn't arrived. He turned up again [after 4 weeks total] changed board...

    Clicking Ideal Classic

Hi I know sod-all about boilers, but I just thought I'd mention that mine had the same symptoms a while back.... used to suddenly click like crazy and always seemed to happen around 8pm when the boiler had been on since 7pm. Called BG engineer and it turned out it was the mechanical timer -...

    electric shower at half strength

Hi I have a Gainsborough 10.5KW electric shower fitted, with a 45A isolator switch in the hallway outside the bathroom, and a 300ma RCD in the consumer unit. About a month ago, the RCD tripped while I was in the shower. My wife reset the RCD and the shower came back on, and has worked since...

    drain sealed system

Cheers mate. Are you saying that the trvs might not fit? I hadn't thought of that...still I can always put the old valves back on in worst case scenario. One thing - refill and vent? Do you mean bleed the air out with the rad bleed valves, or am I being a bit dense here?

    drain sealed system

Hi I have a combi boiler sealed CH system, supplying 10 radiators. I previously fitted a trv to a lounge radiator using a pipe freeze kit. I now want to fit trvs to 8 other radiators, leaving the bathroom one as it is [permanently on for drying towels]. I have located the filling loop and...
