    Great thank you does this also apply for the mortar once it’s saturated then doesn’t go any deeper through the mortar just runs down it. I’m learning and finding it quite interesting how a wall functions to be honest

    Bricks are pre war commons I believe. Just got shock when seen how wet they were was worried would soak right through to cavity wall insulation

    Wall seems to dry out quickly after being saturated with rain so does mortar hold moisture aswell my worry was if it absorbed to much it would leak in

    Evening all got some repointing work carried out on my property in the summer builder used a 5 in 1 building sand and cement mix. After the heavy rain at the weekend wall looked all wet which is normal I assume just wondering if his mix is absorbing the rain thanks

    No problem thanks for the reply so do you think I won’t have problems with penetrated damp on the winter or with heavy rain. If it soaks through onto the insulation in the cavity will this cause me problems thanks

    I’ve dug down all seems fine except these few cracked bricks which I’m unsure of the cause. Would it be possible to just replace the bricks? Funny how Taking a little bit concrete out can Chuck up a hidden problem which has possibly been like this years

    Hi thanks for that no gully or drain anywhere near the corner when it was all concrete and prolonged downpour the water sat on that corner I’m wondering if it’s got in where mortar is missing over the years and then froze and cracked the brickwork. I’ll attach a photo so you can see what I mean...
