Old door repair - advice please.....

if the door has mortice and tenon joints they may be wedged. If the tenons come right through, look for the wedges. If you have them you need to remove them and make slightly bigger ones then joint up again and hammer the bigger wedges in and the frame should stay together due to the wedges...

    Smart meters?

with respect, why are you being so offensive?? of I course I know CH uses gas - what do you think I think it runs on, the water alone lol?? Actually, not that it is any of your business, but my missus has an illness that means she is relatively inactive. Inactivity means you get colder than...

    Smart meters?

no I cant see the point being made, maybe I'm being a bit thick lol. In a home people wish to be comfortable. If you are watching the pennies its a contant battle between £ and comfort. Luckily for us we dont live need to like that but its easy to err towards too much comfort and being lazy...

    Smart meters?

I keep turning the CH stat down more often than I did. With smart meter newly installed i went round making sure all the lights were off until I realised it hardly made any difference:) I never realised how much gas the CH used. If out of 100 customers who have smart meters installed more are...

    Smart meters?

not sure how many people need a smart meter to remind them the ovens still running after they take the pie outo_O Energy companies put these gadgets in to make themselves more profit which I dont have a problem with. A spin off is the average consumer gets an insight into their real time energy...

    Smart meters?

ban all sheds, if you (one) run your house on a shoestring turning off every light, hanging the washing over the rads, not having the CH unless you're shivering then you know you are using the minimum amount of energy possible. If you are not fixated on the cost of everything you do , fixated...

    Smart meters?

on the basis that our new smart meter is accurate, it does save us money because it makes me more aware of what costs what and I have without a doubt altered our energy consumption. As an example - running the smart meter digital thing for both gas and electric each day gives me more or less...

    which window board is best?

    which window board is best?

need to fit a window sill to our kitchen and am getting in a right old muddle as to what to use. I thought I had it sussed with bullnosed foam board but got it home and offered it up and it looks rubbish IMO (not flat, not shiny, scuff marks from the manufacturing process) so thats a quick £42...

    chaffed cable through joist

sorry bansheds my cameras faulty and I dont do phone cameras. Had another look today and actually I can see some sharp edges to the wear area so now am thinking maybe someone sliced it with a saw or something - maybe they then hid it in the joist hole!

    chaffed cable through joist

no, looks to me like a smooth worn surface over approx 30mm long with the copper slightly exposed in the centre. It corresponds with the edge of the joist hole as if the cable had been constantly moving over a period of time and worn on the holes edge but cant see how it could have been moving...

    chaffed cable through joist

whilst having the bedroom floor up to expose some cable for work I'm doing in the kitchen I'm noticing a 2.5mm cable chaffed through to the neutral core ie copper wire showing! the cable is one of approx 6 passing through a 25mm diameter hole bored in the floor joist.
