    Replace staircase

Now the carpet is off my staircase they are looking to be in really bad condition. The risers are really split and cracked but I guess that’s to be expected from 1970’s. Rather than repair, would you recommend simply putting a new staircase in? My joiner would do this in a day rather than me...

Perfect. Just fitted it... thanks. Any reason why that’s the better one? What’s the difference?

    Which drain type to use?

I’d like to make draining my system easier by fitting a 15mm Drain Cock in a cupboard where it’s accessible. I didn’t realise there were two types (see attached photo). Which would you recommend I use?

Spotted this in someone’s house and I wondered if anyone knew what the brand was and how easy they are to fit if my electrician wires it up for me? Thanks

9 parts paint and 1 part water is weak? Because if the streaks I think I’m going to have to fine sand it and go again. You suggest neat this time? Thanks.

    Paint drying too quickly?

After a fresh plaster skim I’ve used some contractors paint 9:1 with water and most coated the walls and ceiling. Now I’m using Layland Brilliant White Matt emulsion on the ceiling and Valspar V700 Matt on the walls I can see the it’s leaving streaks where the roller has been. Is it possible...

    Plasterboard join

Thanks guys. Dissapointing when I paid top money to have it done I guess. Interval angles are not great either. They were tapered edged boards. Will a light sand by me and a paint help? Or any suggestions to improve the appearance? Thanks.

    Plasterboard join

New PB. All rooms have been taken back to block (paid someone to do it) and they’ve boarded and skimmed. Really disappointed tbh. I can’t find any decent plasterers round here though which is the problem.

    Plasterboard join

It’s only now I’ve painted the wall that I can see this join. I’ve had 3 rooms done by the same plasterers and have a feeling there’ll be other bits like this too. What are your thoughts? Acceptable etc?

    Clay drain replacement

Thanks. I’ve put a McAllen’s extension in it and self levelled round it. It went in quite deep so hopefully it’ll be ok.

Size of quadrant to use with skirting and archi

Not sure I understand you? Fits in the gap or fits against the archi/skirting? What goes on first when you’ve got a quadrant and skirting board meeting? Does the skirting sit against the quadrant or vice versus etc? Thanks

Size of quadrant to use with skirting and archi

I have skirting and architrave fitted in a couple of rooms where quandrant will be needed on one side of the door instead of architrave (due to space and stop the plaster / casing cracking). The skirting is 19 x 100mm The Architrave is 19 x 75mm What size quandrant would work best with these...

    Clay drain replacement

How about using one of these.... https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-mac-exta-pan-connector-straight-extension-piece-white-110mm/98788 Then running a bead of silicone round it (https://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-builders-silicone-clear-310ml/83710) once it’s in position, screeding round it...

    Clay drain replacement

I’m tempted to try to fit a new piece that “repairs” what’s there and then use a connector when the final floor level is connect. What do you think about fitting one of these... https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-mac-exta-pan-connector-straight-extension-piece-white-110mm/98788 Is there a way...

    Clay drain replacement

Thanks. The contractors were great and did a brilliant job (apart from the drain). I can only find McAlpine DC1-BL Drain Connector - and they are black. Is that the sort it thing you meant does anyone do white do you know? Thanks

    Clay drain replacement

I had a flooring contractor level my floor today but in the process the chipped back one of the clay drains for my downstairs toilet. Any suggestions for how I can fix it please? It’s 100mm internal and they’ve left a gap around it so it can be fixed. Thanks.

    Running doorbell cable

Would you suggest drilling in from the side and straight through and then drilling in from the outside half way through and threading the cable to the doorbell button that way?

    Running doorbell cable

It’s a nest hello doorbell I’m going to put in. Just needs 2 core but I’m putting 5 core in for it as that’s what I’ve got.
