    Preserving a garden bench

Hmmmmmm... After twenty minutes with the sander, and a little go with the Nitro Mors, I reckon I'm looking at several days or more worth of sanding and stripping before I'm even close to being able to use the preserver and protector. It's screwed in places and mortise and tenon in others, so...

    Preserving a garden bench

So... I think we are in agreement that, a water based product wouldn't adhere very well to the areas that had been treated earlier with the wood hardener? I'll go all solvent / spirit / oil based (y)

    Preserving a garden bench

There are always more questions than answers... especially when it comes to things in tins... Am I right in thinking a solvent / spirit based treatment is best for preserving and protecting rather than water based? Oil and rain water not mixing etc? I spotted that the Cuprinol products I was...

    Preserving a garden bench

Excellent stuff, think I might get away with the filler for the most part.

    Preserving a garden bench

So, current thinking: Sand the whole bench back. Don't get it dipped. Treat the rotted bits to some wood hardener (probably the Ronseal stuff). Give the whole thing a coat of clear wood preserver (probably Cuprinol). Then give the whole thing a couple of coats of wood protector (probably...

    Preserving a garden bench

Interesting stuff... wondering if the bench would survive the process!:giggle:

    Preserving a garden bench

Thanks for all the info on dipping. I hadn't considered the glue issue. I'll just be sanding it back I think! I'll start to look into 'spirit based wood preserver' and 'wood hardeners', if anyone has any recommended products or brands, do let me know. I'm guessing that getting it 'pressure...

    Preserving a garden bench

Interesting! That makes a lot of sense. The bench is actually a large memorial bench, that was originally situated outside a social club, it lasted 20 odd years with whatever it was originally coated in and now another 10 or more with the Duckback stuff. So, no idea what it actually is. Looking...

Apologies, I don't know what wood it is made from.

    Preserving a garden bench

Hi all I have a large garden bench, think public park style, and slowly it is deteriorating, not much but it is on it's way. What should I be treating / coating it with to make it last? At present it has several coats of Ronseal Duckback on it, the stuff you would cover a rough cut garden...

Rubble sack for a wheelie bin?

I won't be filling it to the brim, and it's only garden stuff, plus, I'm "well 'ard"

Rubble sack for a wheelie bin?

Hi all... To clear up any confusion, I want a life long reusable rubble sack for my garden waste wheelie bin. I have chosen not to have it emptied by the council, as I don't always fill it each month and they charge each year for the service. What I want to do, is line the wheelie bin with a...

Rubble sack for a wheelie bin?

Anyone know where I could get a rubble sack / Hippobag the shape of a standard wheelie bin? I thought this would be a thing, but can't see any available online. Anyone seen anything along these lines anywhere?

Old glue coming through the cushion floor / vinyl floor

Nearly six months since I did this, and so far so good, none of the old glue appears to have come through into the cushion flooring.

Old glue coming through the cushion floor / vinyl floor

My tiles are marley tiles from 1979 / 80 (I'm no expert, they could be PVC, or some mix, or something else all together). It's not the adhesive that stuck down the marley tiles that I was having issues with, it was the adhesive that was put on top of them to stick down an early bit of vinyl...

Old glue coming through the cushion floor / vinyl floor

Just to be clear, that was basically a sheet of plastic / waterproof membrane from the likes of ScrewFix. I'm sure it would have been appropriate for something, but not what I was trying to achieve. The liquid paint on option appears to be a better choice at this point.

Old glue coming through the cushion floor / vinyl floor

Went with this stuff in the end: https://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/product/15033/sikabond_rapid_dpm Two thin coats with a roller, each drying in little over an hour, went down easy. I was probably a little heavy handed, a little too much on the roller for most peoples liking, and as such got...

Old glue coming through the cushion floor / vinyl floor

This has been on hold recently due to more pressing matters... I originally put down a cheap waterproof membrane between the old marley tiles and the new flooring, but it didn't really work. I used a low ish tack adhesive (out of fear of messing it up and not being able to reposition it, and...

Old glue coming through the cushion floor / vinyl floor

Think I might have found a winner with this: https://www.resincoat.co.uk/en/paints/49-resincoat-hb-epoxy-garage-floor-paint.html No idea how it will work over the still tacky newer adhesive, but willing to give it a go at that price.
