    Shower/sink sealant that works!?

Whoops! Best trick I can think of is degreasing the surface first as said above - try some car brake cleaner aerosol! There is something new out called cornertape as well - not used it, but looks like a posh version of masking tape that might actually work!

    boosting my pressure

We have maybe 3.5 bar max dipping to 2 bar during peak hours (this is measured by a fixed pressure gauge by the way, so it's fairly accurate). Prob we have is flow - wanted big huge showers similar to yours - the bodyjets and a raindance head, and without digging the drive/road/garden up to get...

    boosting my pressure

Many thanks for that, the problem did appear to be a lack of shimming, but despite using three bits of 18mm ply stacked under the offending leg, movement was still evident, shimming in the order of approximately 3 inches being required. Instead, we have used our plumbers wallet as a temporary...

    boosting my pressure

Bit late for loads of typing but we've had an accumulator in for a week now - 200 litre - and it rocks! Silly big flow rates, better pressure in the mornings (got gauges on it to monitor it), and when the mains is turned off, it takes an age to empty out and the flow to tail off - so my mums...

How do I detect leak in heating pipes under a concrete floor

If the pressure drops to zero, the damage is done - reverting to open vented will still leave it leaking. Doesn't sound like theres any choice but to repipe it all, unless if the new cylinder is vented - does it still rely on a header tank in the loft to fill the cylinder - if it's vented, the...

How do I detect leak in heating pipes under a concrete floor

Could only have started leaking since upgrading - with the increased pressure from the sealed system it can start leaks where previously all was ok.

    Delta T

Thankyou again! I don't have a choice with the boiler - we need one that doesn't fall to bits, it has to be a condenser to meet regs, and the plumber got a really good deal on a Vaillant. I agree you're right now I understand the basics - there isn't any benefit in a modulating condensing...

    Delta T

Shift work - been on 12 hour nights, happy days :( So, 1 with the condensing boiler, I need the lowest return temp I can get. 2 I don't need a 3 port mixing valve because the boiler is a condenser? 3 The weather comp IS un-necessary. Best for efficiency when 'charging up' the thermal...

    Delta T

I've discussed the woodburner bit with a stove/fire shop owner locally, and mentioned we will need a pump (with open vented system to feed the store coil) as thermal siphoning/heat rising to the store won't work due to the stove being same level as the store - he didn't mention an extra blending...

    Delta T

Am I right in now thinking on a thermal store, a 3 port blending valve (eg TMV3 bathroom antiscalding type thing?) is used to lower the temp of fluid entering the store down from the flow temp of the boiler, so that what returns to the boiler is at the correct non-condensing/condensing...

    Delta T

Hi, thanks for replying! So delta T is the difference between flow and return. I'm getting it confused between actual return temp. So is delta T better when bigger? 50 degC return temp has been mentioned as being good for condensing - is this why a blending valve is used, to get the...

    Delta T

I'm still trying to get my head around the best way to get a condensing boiler to condense as much as possible. Delta T of the boiler seems to be an important part of this. We have a Vaillant condensing boiler ready for fitting. At the same time, the plumber got me a Vaillant weather...

    bath in floor

We've gone the other way and raised the floor with a step up to the bath. So the new floor sits on top of the old one, if you follow me. If your bathroom is above two opposing supporting walls, and you can get a new set of joists two-three foot under the existing floor to hold up the bath, and...

    New Install: Vaillant Controls

As far as I know (and I'm not an expert), the weather comp is linked only to the boiler with regard to the space heating - it just blends/mixes/lowers the radiator flow temp if the outside temp sensor says it's sunny. The VRC400 is (from memory) about £70, so for something that may save gas and...

    Fridges, freezers and fuses

Thanks for the replies. Any sockets will be directly next to/behind the fridges/freezers, and all are integrated type so the chances of plugging in a hedge cutter to trim the pond plants are unlikely if not impossible. Or fused switched cord outlets could be used, instead of sockets - that'd...

    Fridges, freezers and fuses

We are moving the kitchen from one end of the house to the other (don't ask!), and I'm trying to work out exactly what electrical work will need to be done so I know exactly what I'm asking for in a quote. We have two fridges and two freezers currently (bu-dum-tishh) on the old kitchen ring...

    Heat Banks

I did try Dick first, but he kept on about holy water, so I posted on here instead! Seriously, many thanks BB/whoever you are, as I've said previously, short of a confused conversation with a plumbers merchant or a sales pitch over the phone, the internet is the only place to learn about this...

Shower Screen for walk-in-shower, HOW MUCH...?

If its just a sheet of glass, 10mm toughened would be cheaper from a glaziers - it'll even come with polished/bevelled edges. I've had pieces about 1m square, with four big holes drilled out for balcony brackets, in 10mm, for about £100 each, if that helps.

l,lord want,s back boiler unit and fire replaceing withfire

Hi, just read this thread, now locked by moderators. http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=137661 Probably teaching you how to suck eggs... but if you are decommissioning a back boiler, and leaving bits of it in the chimney behind something that gets hot, make sure its all vented...
